RAMAPO DOWNS RUTGERS-NEWARK IN NJAC ACTION, 73-48

Newark, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team won their first NJAC conference game of the season with a 71-48 road victory over Rutgers-Newark University. The Roadrunners move to 6-7 overall and 1-5 in the league while the Scarlet Raiders move to 2-11 overall and 0-6 in the conference.

Ramapo jumped out to a 6-0 lead to start the game before they extended it to 10-2 on a fastbreak bucket from Lauren Flatt. Following a basket from Rutgers-Newark the Roadrunners went on an 8-2 run to close out the first quarter with an 18-6 lead. A 12-4 run to start the second half extended the Ramapo lead to twenty points. Quanajah Felder scored two points for Rutgers-Newark before Vanessa Kohler started the 12-point run for the Roadrunners with a jumper of her own. Kohler tallied six total points while Flatt capped off the run with a three-pointer for the, 30-10 with less than seven minutes on the clock. The Scarlet Raiders scored the next four points before Jelly Quadrino and Flatt tallied back-to-back baskets for Ramapo for a 34-14 lead with 4:20 remaining. That started a 9-0 run to close out the second quarter as Denay Jones sank a three-pointer and Jayda Sharp added a layup as Ramapo went into the locker room up, 39-14. Ramapo held a double-digit lead for the rest of the game as they extended it to 32-points with a layup from Kohler with 5:42 on the clock, 51-19. The Scarlet Raiders finished the third quarter on a 7-0 run as Ramapo led 55-31 heading into the final quarter of action. Ramapo added 18 points to their tally in the fourth including eight points from the free throw line as the Roadrunners came away with the NJAC road victory.

Kohler recorded a career high 20 points in the win for the Roadrunners as she finished perfect from the free throw line (8-8) and 6-10 from the field. She also added five rebounds, five assists and one steal. Sweeney also tallied a career high eight points tonight as she shot 3-3 from the field and 2-2 from the free throw line while adding four rebounds and three assists. Flatt posted 13 points and six rebounds and Jones contributed with 11 points, six rebounds, and a team high five blocks and four steals. The Roadrunners shot 44% (26-59) from the floor, 13% (2-15) from the three-point line and 79% (19-24) from the free throw line in the game.

The Scarlet Raiders were led by Arlenny Medina who posted 15 points, five assists, two steals and three rebounds. Felder added 14 points, two steals and five rebounds. Jaielyn Alston posted a team high 11 rebounds while contributing with two points and two steals. The team shot 27% (18-66) from the field, 11% (1-9) from the three-point line and 45% (11-24) from the free throw line.

The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday at the Bradley Center when they host Rowan University in NJAC action at 3pm.
