Mahwah, NJ: The Rowan University women's basketball team defeated Ramapo college today in NJAC action, 57-50. The Profs improve to 8-6 overall and 4-3 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners move to 6-8 overall and 1-6 in the conference.
Ramapo scored the first four points of the game before Rowan got on the board with a three-pointer from Jess Mclaughlin. A pair of free throws gave the Profs their first lead of the game before baskets from
Emma Cartwright and
Ava Burke put the Roadrunners back up 8-5. The Profs tied the game at eight and 10 before a mini 5-2 to run closed out the first quarter for Rowan as they led 15-12. Cartwright and Rowan's Emily Poulas each recorded a three-pointer to open the scoring in the second. Later in the quarter the Roadrunners would take a one-point lead with back-to-back baskets from
Jelly Quadrino and
Vanessa Kohler, 19-18. The two teams traded baskets to retake the lead before Rowan finished the quarter on an 11-0 run to go up, 31-21.
In the third, Ramapo cut the Rowan lead to seven three different times before the Profs went on a 10-3 run to go up 48-34 heading into the final quarter of action. In the fourth, a three-pointer from Poulas gave Rowan a 17-point lead with 6:39 on the clock. The Roadrunners went on a 7-0 run started by Jada Sharp with a jumper followed by a three-pointer and jumper from Quadrino. Following a basket from Rowan, the Roadrunners finished the game on a 7-2 run as the Profs held on for the seven-point NJAC road win.
A balanced scoring attack along with six made three-pointers helped Rowan defeat the Roadrunners. McLaughlin led the way with 11 points and Poulas added nine while Haley Selmer, Jes Mastriano and Natalia Barrera each posted eight points in the game. Ava Kraybill led the way with eight rebounds. The team shot 31% (19-61) from the field, 26% (6-23) from the three-point line and 68% (13-19) from the free throw line.
For the Roadrunners, Cartwright tallied 14 points and one block while
Vanessa Kohler added eight points, seven rebounds and two assists.
Ava Burke posted eight points and four rebounds. Quadrino contributed with seven points, seven rebounds, three assists and one steal. The team shot 37% (22-59) from the field, 33% (2-6) from the three-point line and 50% (4-8) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on the road on January 14th when they travel to William Paterson University at 5:30pm.
