Camden, NJ: The Rutgers-Camden University women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College today, 82-59. The Scarlet Raptors win their 10th game of the season (10-8) and move to 7-4 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 6-12 overall and 1-10 in the league.
One of Ramapo's best runs during the game was a 9-4 spurt where they took a 15-11 lead with less than five minutes remaining in the first quarter.
Lauren Flatt started the scoring run for the Roadrunners with a three-pointer before Emma Carwright and
Vanessa Kohler each converted from the free throw line. The run was capped off with a layup from
Denay Jones. A 12-6 run from the Scarlet Raptors to end the first gave them a 23-21 lead. That run extended into the second quarter as they started on a 7-0 run to give them a nine-point lead, 30-21. Ramapo responded with a 9-0 run of their own to cut the lead to just one with just under four minutes remaining. A 7-3 push in the final minutes before the half from Rutgers-Camden gave them a 40-33 lead. In the third, a big 23-5 run from the Scarlet Raptors stretched their six-point lead with about eight minutes remaining to a 21-point lead with just under two minutes in the third. Ramapo would snap the run with a Kohler layup while the two teams traded a three-pointer from Courtney Edmundo and another layup from Kohler as Rutgers-Camden held a 20-point lead heading into the final frame of action. The Scarlet Raptors held a double-digit lead throughout the fourth quarter as they came away with NJAC victory.
Edmundo would lead all scorers in the game with 31 points as she finished 9-12 from the field, 3-4 from the three-point line and 10-11 from the free throw line. She added 12 rebounds for a double-double along with five assists, three blocks and one steal. Hope Goodwine posted 13 points while Tireya Wyatt collected 11 in the game. The team shot 38% (26-67) from the field, 36% (9-25) from the three-point line and 77% (21-27) from the free throw line.
Jones led the way for the Roadrunners scoring 19 points, which matches her season & career high. Jones also pulled down seven rebounds while adding two assists and one steal. Kohler added 14 points and six rebounds while Cartwright collected 11 points, four rebounds and four blocks. Flatt contributed with nine points including two three-pointers while she added seven rebounds, two steals and one block. The Roadrunners shot 38% (19-49) from the field, 40% (2-5) from the three-point line and 79% (19-24) from the free throw line.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, Jan. 28th when they host Kean University in a NJAC game at 5:30 PM.
