Jersey City, NJ: The New Jersey City University women's basketball team pulled away in the second half to secure the NJAC win over Ramapo College tonight, 77-58. The Gothic Knights move to 6-8 overall and 4-6 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 6-11 overall and 1-9 in the league.
NJCU took a 21-10 lead into the second quarter before Ramapo outscored the Gothic Knights 20-14 to shrink the lead 35-30 at halftime. NJCU held Ramapo to just nine points in the third while they added 24 points to their side of the scoreboard taking a twenty-point lead into the final quarter of action, 59-39. Ramapo outscored NJCU by one in the fourth, 19-18, as the Gothic Knights earned the win.
The Gothic Knights had two players who scored nearly 30 points apiece as they were led by Meghan Gentile who posted 29 points. Gentile finished 10-27 from the field, 3-14 from the three-point line and 6-6 from the free throw line. Na'tori Postell added a 28-point game as she finished with five three-pointers. Bailey Cassell led the way with 11 rebounds while Autumn John posted ten while adding six points and three assists. NJCU shot 37% (26-70) from the field, 29% (10-34) from the three-point line and 75% (15-20) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners had three players score in double figures in the game as they were led by
Denay Jones with 13 points.
Emma Cartwright posted 12 points, six rebounds, one block and one steal.
Ava Burke added ten points, five rebounds, three assists and two steals in the game. The team shot 37% (20-54) from the field, 25% (2-8) from the three-point line and 69% (16-23) from the free throw line.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, Jan. 24th when they travel to Rutgers-Camden University for a NJAC game at 1:00 PM.
