RAMAPO SWEEPS STEVENS IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team swept a pair of non-conference games from Stevens Institute of Technology this afternoon. The Roadrunners (21-2 overall) earned a 4-3 win in game one and a 2-1 win in game two in eight innings over the Ducks (14-16 overall).

Game One: Ramapo 4, Stevens 1
Ramapo starting pitcher Marissa DiPaolo (10-1) surrendered just two hits in the complete-game victory. She struck out one, walked two, and let up just one run. Stevens scored in the second inning before Ramapo took the lead in the third as they scored three runs. Lia Milsom led off with a single, stole second, and later scored on Kori Gargiulo's double to left field to put Ramapo on the board, 1-1. Rygiel worked a walk earlier in the inning and later scored on a wild pitch to put the Roadrunners up, 2-1. Hannah Hensler then laced a single through the left side of the infield to plate Gargiulo for a 3-1 score. In the sixth inning, Ramapo added another insurance run when Emily Ehrmann drove home Hensler with an RBI ground out, 4-1. Hensler doubled to left field with one out and moved to third on a wild pitch.

Gargiulo and Hensler each finished 2-3 with one run scored and one RBI in the game.

Game 2: Ramapo 2, Stevens 1 – eight innings
Stevens took a 1-0 lead in the top of the first when Megan Curtis snuck a triple down the right-field line before she scored on a sac bunt from Madison Subbiondo. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Ramapo would come back to tie the game. The Ducks made a great defensive play to get the first out of the inning at first base before Hensler laced a single to right field. Hensler moved to second on a wild pitch and to third on an infield ground out. With two outs, DiPaolo pinch-hit and drove in Hensler with an RBI single up the middle to tie the game, 1-1.

In the eighth inning, Stevens would put down a sac bunt to move the runner from second to third. Ramapo starting pitcher Brooke Knight induced a strikeout looking for the second out of the inning and a shallow pop fly to center field to end the Sevens scoring threat. Milsom was placed on second base to start the bottom of the eighth before she reached on a fielder's choice by Katie Rygiel to put runners at the corners. Rygiel stole second before the Ducks got the first out of the inning. Milsom later scored on a fielder's choice off the bat of Yasbellah Otero as Milsom slid ahead of the Duck's throw home for the 2-1 Ramapo victory.

Knight (4-0) pitched a complete game with three strikeouts, and two walks while she scattered two Duck hits in the game. Ramapo collected just three hits in the game as Hensler, Ehrmann, and DiPaolo each posted one.

Ramapo returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to Montclair State University for a pair of NJAC games starting at 3pm.
