Montclair, NJ: The Montclair State University softball team swept Ramapo College (21-4, 5-3 NJAC) this afternoon in NJAC action. The Red Hawks (20-8, 6-2 NJAC) took game one in eight innings 3-2 before earning a 3-1 in game two.
Game One: MSU 3, Ramapo 2 | eight innings
The Red Hawks got on the board with a run in the first inning before Ramapo tied the game in the fourth.
Ysabellah Otero knocked in
Avery Kontura with an RBI single before
Emily Ehrmann plated Otero later in the inning with a sac fly for a 2-1 lead. In the sixth, MSU tied the game with a sac fly of their own to tie the game at two. The Red Hawks would hold off the Roadrunners from scoring in the top of the eighth inning before the game-winning run came home on a sac fly from Marialys Ricourt for the 3-2 walk-off win.
Sage Rizzi (7-3) earned the win in the circle for the Red Hawks as she struck out five, walked five, and scattered three hits in the complete game.
Marissa DiPaolo (10-2) suffered the loss for the Roadrunners as she struck out six, walked two, and surrendered seven hits.
Game 2: MSU 3, Ramapo 1
MSU once again scored in the first inning as Ricourt posted an RBI single. The Roadrunners tied the game in the second with an RBI fielder's choice from
Lia Milsom as Clay'le Correa-Vanness scored, 1-1. In the third, the Red Hawks plated the go-ahead run with an RBI single from Liz Mullen. Jayla Vasquez gave the Red Hawks an insurance run in the fifth with a solo home run to right field for a 3-1 lead.
Cheyanne Weigand (7-1) and the MSU defense kept Ramapo off the board after the second inning. Weigand struck out four, walked two, and scattered eight Roadrunner hits in the game to earn the win in the circle for the Red Hawks.
Brooke Knight (4-1) took the loss in the circle for Ramapo She recorded a season-high seven strikeouts, walked one, and let up seven hits in the complete game.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, April 12th when they travel to Rowan University for a NJAC doubleheader beginning at 1pm.
