RAMAPO SOFTBALL SWEEPS RUTGERS-CAMDEN; RYGIEL POSTS PROGRAM HITS RECORD

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team swept their first NJAC doubleheader of the season over Rutgers-Camden University today at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners move to 17-2 overall and 3-1 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors drop to 3-16 overall and 1-3 in the league.

Game One | Ramapo 4, Rutgers-Camden 1
The Roadrunners got on the board early in the game with one run in the first inning. Avery Kontura walked and later scored on a Scarlet Raptor error, 1-0. In the bottom of the second Ramapo added three runs to extend their lead, 4-0. With the bases loaded and no outs, Hannah Hensler scored on a Rutgers-Camden fielding error before Kontura bounced into a fielder's choice which allowed Emily Ehrmann to score, 3-0. Kori Gargiulo lifted a sac fly to plate Lia Milsom for the 4-0 score. In the top of the sixth, Alyssa Gannon connected on a solo home run over the left field wall to get Rutgers-Camden on the board.

Kassy Stefanski (7-1) earned the win in the circle for Ramapo. She struck out five, walked none and scattered four hits in the complete game victory. Four different Roadrunners each collected one hit in the game.

Game Two | Ramapo 9, Rutgers-Camden 1
Ramapo scored one in the third, three in the fourth and five in the fifth for the run-rule five inning game. The Scarlet Raptors scored their lone run in the top of the fifth. Rygiel laced an infield to first base to lead-off the game as she recorded her 209th career hit, to break the program record. In the third inning, Milsom walked, stole second and moved to third on a ground out. Gargiulo then drove her in with an RBI ground out for the 1-0 lead. In the bottom of the fourth inning, Emily Ehrmann plated Alex Hastings with an RBI ground out, 2-0. Hastings led off the inning with a double down the left field line. Later in the inning, Milsom put down a bunt single while pinch runner Emily Reilly scored on a Scarlet Raptor throwing error, 3-0. Milsom moved to second on a wild pitch before she stole third base. Rygiel then drove her in with a hard-hit single to right-center field, 4-0. Rutgers-Camden scored an unearned run in the top of the fifth before Ramapo added five runs on three hits in the bottom half of the inning for the run-rule victory, 9-1. Gargiulo was hit by a pitch to lead off the inning before being lifted for pinch runner Clay'le Correa-Vanness. Correa-Vanness stole second before scoring on Rebecca Airel's RBI single, 5-1. Niah Murphy pinch ran for Airel before Ysabellah Otero connected on her first home run of the season to push the score, 7-1. With the bases empty and one out, Hannah Hensler doubled to center field before stealing third base. Pinch hitter, Sophia Diaz drew a walk before being lifted for pinch runner Sonali Rodriquez. Rodriquez stole second before Marisa DiPaolo drove in Hensler with a RBI ground out, 8-1. Rygiel was intentionally walked, Kontura was hit by a pitch to load the bases before Gargiulo was hit by a pitch to force home Rodriquez with the game's ninth run of the game, 9-1.

DiPaolo (8-1) struck out two, walked none and scattered five hits in the five-inning victory for the Roadrunners. Ramapo recorded 10 hits in the game as Rygiel, Airel and Otero all collected two each.

Ramapo returns to action on Thursday, April 3rd when they host Mount Saint Mary College with a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3pm.
