RAMAPO WINS FIFTH STRAIGHT GAME IN SWEEP OVER WPU

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team swept a pair of NJAC games against William Paterson University today at the Athletic Center, 4-3 in game one and 9-1 in six innings in game two. The Roadrunners win their fifth straight and move to 19-2 overall and 5-1 in the NJAC while the Pioneers drop to 9-11 overall and 2-4 in the league.

Game One: Ramapo 4, WPU 3
The Pioneers got on the board in the third with one unearned run before Ramapo tied it in the bottom half of the inning. Katie Rygiel singled and with two outs Kori Gargiulo ripped a single to center to put two runners on. Rebecca Airel then laced a single up the middle to plate Rygiel with the game-tying run, 3-3.

Ramapo added two runs in the fourth for a 3-1 lead. Ysabellah Otero led off with a double down the left-field line before moving to third on a sac bunt. Otero then scored on a WPU error to take a 2-1 lead. Milsom singled and Rygiel was hit by a pitch to load the bases. Avery Kontura lifted a sac fly to center field which plated Emily Ehrmann, 3-1. The Pioneers returned to tie the game at three in the top half of the fifth inning, 3-3. In the bottom of the seventh, Kontura was hit by a pitch before moving up to third on two different wild pitches. Gargiulo walked before Airel laced an infield single to plate Kontura with the 4-3 walk-off win for the Roadrunners.

Brooke Knight (3-0) earned the win in relief for Ramapo as she struck out three, walked two, and surrendered two hits and two runs scored in 4.2 innings of work. Otero finished 3-3 with one run scored while Rygiel and Airel each collected two hits in the game.
 
Game 2: Ramapo 9, WPU 1 – Six Innings
Ramapo scored six runs in the bottom of the second on six hits with the help of three WPU errors. With one out Otero laced another double down the left field line before Alex Hastings singled up the middle to put runners at the corners. Otero then scored on a WPU error before Ehermann drove in Hannah Hensler and Hastings with a two-RBI single, 3-0. Milsom put down a bunt single which advanced Ehrmann to third before she scored on a wild pitch, 4-0. Rygiel recorded an RBI single to center to plate Milsom before Rygiel later scored on a WPU error, 6-0.

The Pioneers scored their lone run in the top of the fourth before Ramapo scored two runs in the fifth and one in the ninth for the run-rule victory, 9-1.
Ramapo collected 12 hits in the game as they were led by Rygiel, Gargiulo, Otero, and Hastings who all posted two hits in the game. Marissa DiPaolo (9-1) struck out two, walked none, and scattered three hits in the complete game victory.

The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, April 8th when they travel to Montclair State University for an NJAC doubleheader starting at 3 pm.
