SOFTBALL DEFEATS WOOSTER, FALLS TO WISCONSIN STEVENS POINT IN EXTRA INNINGS

RYGIEL RECORDS 200TH CAREER HIT IN GAME TWO

Clermont, FL:  The Ramapo College softball team split a pair of games this afternoon at THE Spring Games also suffering their first loss of the 2025 season. The Roadrunners defeated the College of Wooster, 9-7, before falling to #16 ranked University of Wisconsin Stevens Point, 5-4 in eight innings.
 
Game One
The Roadrunners scored five runs in the second inning to take an early 5-0 lead. Hannah Hensler drove in two RBI with a single to center field before Avery Kontura laced a single up the middle which allowed Hensler to score, 3-0. Rebecca Airel then drove in Emily Ehrmann and Kontura with a two RBI single of her own, 5-0.
 
Wooster got on the board in the fourth with two runs before Ramapo tacked on four more runs in the fourth. Yasbellah Otero was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to push home Katie Rygiel before Kontura scored on a RBI ground out from Kori Gargiulo, 7-2. Airel later scored on an infield error by Wooster, 8-2. In the fifth, Otero drove in Rygiel with a sac fly for a 9-2 score. Wooster added five runs in the top of the seventh to come within two of tying the game before Ramapo recorded three outs to end the threat.
 
Kassy Stefanski (3-0) earned the win in the circle as she let up just two hits while she struck out six and walked four. Rygiel and Kontura each finished 3-4 with two runs scored while Kontura posted one RBI. Gargiulo and Hensler each collected two hits while Hensler drove in two RBI.
 
Game Two
Ramapo struck first in game two for an early 1-0 lead following the top of the first inning. Rygiel led off with a single to right field before Kontura drilled a double to left field which allowed Rygiel to score, 1-0. In the third inning
 
Kaitlyn Roberts connected on a two-run home run in the bottom of the third for the Pointers to give them a 2-1 lead. Ramapo scored one run in the top of the sixth and seventh innings to take a 4-3 lead. In the sixth, Rygiel tied the game with a solo home run over the left field fence, 2-2. In the seventh, Gargiulo led off with being hit by a pitch before Hensler reached on a throwing error. Gargiulo went to third on the play before coming home on a bunt single from Ehrmann, 3-2.
 
Stevens Point (14-1) worked a walk to lead off the bottom of the seventh before Trinity Otto drove home pinch runner Kodi Rizzo to re-tie the game, 3-3. In the eighth, pinch runner Emily Reilly was placed on second base before moving to third on a bunt single from Clay'le Correa Vanness. With runners at the corners and one out, Gargiulo lifted a sac fly to right field which allowed Reilly to score, 4-3.
 
Roberts started the inning on second and moved to third on a bunt single before scoring on a wild pitch to tie the game at four. Jesse Klicker was the hero for Steven Point with a hard hit single into the right-center field gap which allowed Rachel Baker to score the game-winning run, 5-4.

Ramapo starting pitcher Marissa DiPaolo (3-1) suffered the loss in the circle. She struck out five, walked two and surrendered six hits and five runs (four earned) in the complete game. Rygiel finished 3-3 at the plate with two runs scored and one RBI while she collected her 200th career hit as a Roadrunner. Rygiel is just the fourth in program history to reach that mark. Ramapo tallied seven hits in the game as Kontura, Correa-Vanness, Gargiulo and Ehrmann all tallied one.
 
Ashley Zygowski (4-1) worked the final four innings for Stevens Point as she struck out six, walked one and let up four hits and three runs (one earned).
 
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow morning for their final two games of the week. They take on the University of Wisconsin Oshkosh at 9:00am and St. Lawrence University at 11:30am.
