NJCU TOPS RAMAPO IN NJAC SEASON OPENER, 52-41

Mahwah, NJ:  The New Jersey City University women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College in the first NJAC contest of the season, 51-42. The Gothic Knights move to 2-2 overall and 1-0 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners stand at 4-2 overall and 0-1 in the league.

Ramapo outscored NJCU by one in the first quarter before the Gothic Knights held the Roadrunners to just two points in the second quarter to take a 21-15 lead into the locker room. Both teams recorded 14 points in the third before NJCU outscored Ramapo in the final quarter of action 16-13 for the 11-point road NJAC victory. Ramapo cut the lead to just one early in the fourth before NJCU went on a 10-0 run capped off by a three-pointer from Na'Tori Postell to give them a 45-34 lead with under three minutes to play. Ramapo would score the next five points from the free throw line before Autumn John added a layup with 25 seconds remaining as NJCU led, 50-40. Jocelyn Huancaya tallied two more points for Ramapo from the free throw line while NJCU did the same for the final point of the game, 52-42.

The Gothic Knights were led by Meghan Gentile who posted 17 points while Kaylah Neal posted 15 points and seven rebounds. John led both teams with 19 rebounds including 13 offensive rebounds along with six points and two steals. NJCU shot 32% (20-61) from the field, 14% (3-21) from the three-point line and 72% (8-11) from the free throw line.

Huancaya led the Roadrunners with 12 points while Lauren Flatt posted 10 points and seven rebounds. Vanessa Kohler added seven points, five rebounds and one blocked shot. The team shot 20% (10-50) from the field, 16% (2-12) from the three-point line and 58% (20-34) from the free throw line.

Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, November 29th when they travel to Lehman College for a non-conference game at 2:00 PM.
