Bronx, NY: The Lehman College women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College today in non-conference action, 61-49. The Lightning move to 5-3 overall while the Roadrunners drop to 4-3 on the season.
The Roadrunners scored the first basket of the game with a bucket from
Emma Cartwright. The two teams had an answer for each mini run the other went on in the first quarter including a three-pointer from
Lauren Flatt which tied the game at 10 with under four minutes on the clock. Lehman answered with a 6-2 run to close out the half, as they went into the second quarter up 16-12. An and-one play from Emily Kennedey gave the Lightning a 24-17 lead with 4:17 left in the quarter before Ramapo went on a 6-4 run of their own to wrap up the first half. Heaven Figueroa scored the final basket of the half as Lehman went into the locker room up, 28-23.
In the third quarter, Ramapo outscored Lehman 19-16 as they battled back to take a 40-34 lead with just over 4:30 to play in the third. The Roadrunners went on a 17-6 run in to start the third as
Vanessa Kohler started the run with a layup and Flatt sank a three-pointer off a dish from
Jocelyn Huancaya for the six point-lead. The Roadrunners went 7-8 from the field and 2-3 from the three-point line during the run. Lehman countered with a 10-2 run of their own to end the third only down two, 42-44. The Lightning held Ramapo to just seven points in the fourth quarter as they pulled away with 17 points of their own for the 61-49 victory.
Three players scored in double figures for Lehman as Figueroa led the way with 20 points highlighted by a 10-12 day on the free throw line. She also collected ten rebounds in the game for a double-double and five steals. Isabela Araujo posted 12 points and eight rebounds while Kennedy contributed with ten points, nine rebounds and three assists. The team shot 35% (19-54) from the field, 15% (2-13) from the three-point line and 75% (21-28) from the free throw line. The Lightning tallied 30 points in the pain and 17 points off Ramapo turnovers.
For the Roadrunners, Flatt collected 13 points including four three-pointers while Cartwright added eight points, five rebounds and one steal. Huancaya contributed with seven points, four rebounds, three assists and one steal.
Ava Burke led the way with nine rebounds while
Denay Jones added six rebounds and four points, three assists and two steals. The Roadrunners shot 34% (18-53) from the field, 31% (5-16) from beyond the three-point line and 47% (8-17) from the free throw line. Ramapo tallied 13 points off Lehman turnovers in the game.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, Dec. 3rd when they travel to Kean University for a NJAC game at 5:35 PM.
