New York, NY: The Ramapo College women's basketball team defeated Baruch College today on the road, 72-59. The Roadrunners move to 3-1 overall while the Bearcats now stand at 1-5 overall on the year.
The Roadrunners and Bearcats played a close game in the first quarter before Baruch extended their lead to 11 points mid-way through the second quarter. The Roadrunners sank back-to-back three-pointers from
Lauren Flatt and
Ava Burke to end the half only down one, 31-32. Ramapo started to pull away in the third quarter as they went on a 6-1 run to close out the final 2:11.
Emma Cartwright tallied four of the team's six points during the run as they led 45-43 heading into the fourth. The two teams traded baskets to open the final quarter of action before the Bearcats tied the game at 47.
Denay Jones then sank a three-pointer for the Roadrunners before the Bearcats would tie the game up at 55-55 with 4:50 on the clock. Flatt sparked a 13-2 run with a three-pointer of her own as Ramapo took a 68-57 lead with just 1:19 remaining on a free throw from Burke. Lillianna Morales scored a layup for Baruch before Jones recorded back-to-back layups to close out the game for the 72-59 road win.
Ramapo was led by Cartwright who tallied a career high 21 points while she added five rebounds, four assists and one block. Jones also set a new career high with 19 points including three three-pointers while she added four rebounds, four assists, three steals and one block. Flatt tallied 11 points including three three-pointers with four rebounds and one block while
Vanessa Kohler led the way with 11 rebounds as she added eight points. Burke also contributed with nine points, seven rebounds and four assists. The Roadrunners shot 41% (29-70) from the field, 36% (8-22) from the three-point line and 50% (6-12) from the free throw line.
For the Bearcats, three players scored in double figures as they were led by Isabella Kostyal-Larrier who posted 20 points, four rebounds and four assists. Lola Idir tallied 14 points, nine rebounds, two steals and two assists while Morales posted 12 points, eight rebounds and a team high six steals. The team shot 31% (18-57) from the field, 22% (6-27) from the three-point line and 85% (17-20) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, November 22nd when they host Medgar Evers College in a non-conference game at 1:00 PM.
