Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team earned a non-conference win over John Jay College today, 57-53. The Roadrunners move to 2-1 overall while the Bloodhounds stand at 0-3 overall.
Led by
Lauren Flatt who scored a season high 22 points, the Roadrunners used a strong second quarter to take a 27-22 lead into the locker room at halftime. Ramapo would lead by seven, 47-40, in the fourth quarter on a basket from
Jocelyn Huancaya with 8:15 remaining. A 5-0 run by John Jay cut the Ramapo lead to two before they tied the game at 49 with just over five minutes remaining.
Lauren Flatt would convert an and-one play (4:48) which gave the Roadrunners the lead for good, 52-49. John Jay would tally four more points in the game while Ramapo converted from the free throw line to extend their lead. Flatt tallied the final points of the game from the charity stripe for the 57-53 win.
Flatt finished with three three-pointers, 7-11 from the field and 5-7 from the free throw line for 22 points.
Vanessa Kohler contributed with nine points, eight rebounds, three steals and one assist while
Ava Burke posted a team high 10 rebounds, five blocks and three points.
Emma Cartwright tallied eight points, two assists and two rebounds. The team shot 32% (19-58) from the field, 25% (5-20) from the three-point line and 56% (14-25) from the free throw line. The Roadrunner defense forced 21 John Jay turnovers which led to 14 points for Ramapo.
Michaela Lattimore posted a double-double for John Jay with 16 points and 12 rebounds while adding four steals and two blocks. Alexis Jones recorded 14 points and one assist while Bryan Bascones also pulled down 12 rebounds including six offensive rebounds with six points and one assist. The Bloodhounds shot 34% (19-55) from the field, 12% (1-8) from the three-point line and 66% (14-21) from the free throw line.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, November 19th when they travel to Baruch College for a non-conference game at 5:30 PM.
