Mahwah, NJ: The Stevens Institute of Technology came back to defeat Ramapo College in non-conference action, 56-40. The Ducks move to 6-5 overall while the Roadrunners now stand at 1-11 on the year.
The Ducks saw themselves up one in the first quarter before Ramapo's
Damiya Graham sank a three-pointer to give the Roadrunners a 7-5 lead. That sparked a 12-0 run which included a three-pointer from
Lauren Flatt while it was capped off with a layup from Jocelyn Hauncaya for an 11-5 lead with 1:16 on the clock. A pair of free throws and a basket from the Ducks shrunk the Ramapo lead to seven with 43 seconds on the clock.
Emma Cartwright scored two for the Roadrunners on a layup before Olivia Schubiger added a jumper for Stevens to wrap up the first quarter with Ramapo holding an 18-11 lead. The Ducks began their comeback in the second as they outscored the Roadrunners 12-7 including three-pointers from Isabella Duval. The Ducks shrunk the Ramapo lead to just two heading into halftime, 25-23. Schubiger's basket to end the second started an 11-0 run which included three straight three-pointers in the third quarter to open up a 32-25 lead for the Ducks. Ramapo got on the board with a jumper from Graham while the Ducks outscored Ramapo in the third, 23-6. In the fourth, the Ducks pushed the lead to 21 with a bucket from Audrey Kehoe as they led, 56-35 with just over three minutes left to play.
Duval led the Ducks with 14 points including four made three-pointers. Dorothy Loffredo tallied 13 points, six rebounds, two steals and two assists while Kehoe led the way with nine rebounds and contributed with six points. The Ducks shot 35% (21-60) from the floor, 35% (6-17) from the three-point line and 66% (8-12) from the free throw line.
Alison Ahern led the Roadrunners with 11 points while adding four rebounds and one blocked shot.
Angelene Mattingly recorded a season high nine points while adding three rebounds and one assist while
Lauren Flatt posted six points and two steals.
Brianna Smith contributed with a season high 12 rebounds. The team shot 30% (16-52) from the floor, 25% (2-5) from the three-point line and 46% (6-13) from the free throw line in the game.
Ramapo returns to action in NJAC action on Wednesday, Jan. 8th when they host Rutgers-Newark University at 5:30pm.
