Mahwah, NJ: The Rutgers-Camden University women's basketball team slipped past Ramapo College today in NJAC action, 70-68 in overtime. The Scarlet Raptors move to 8-10 overall and 4-7 in the league while the Roadrunners now stand at 2-16 overall and 1-10 in the NJAC.
The Scarlet Raptors would score a jumper under the basket with five seconds remaining to take a one-point lead before being fouled on the play.
Alison Ahern sank a pair of free throws for the Roadrunners with 1:52 on the clock for a one-point lead, 68-67. Following missed shots by both teams down the stretch the Scarlet Raptors had possession following a missed basket by Ramapo. Rutgers-Camden missed a three-pointer as Taja Brown collected the put-back rebound for the lead before getting fouled. She would complete the and-one play to give the Scarlet Raptors the one-point lead. The Roadrunners were able to give a shot off in the final seconds but it could not find the bottom of the bet as the Scarlet Raptors won on the road in overtime, 70-68.
Four Ramapo starters scored in double figures as they were led by
Lauren Flatt who tallied 19 points including five key three-pointers in the game. She added seven points, two assists, one block and one steal.
Alison Ahern posted a double-double with 16 points and a team high 12 rebounds.
Jocelyn Huancaya finished 7-8 from the free throw line with 12 points while adding a team high five assists, two steals and a block.
Damiya Graham contributed with ten points including two three-pointers and four rebounds. Ramapo shot 35% (23-65) from the floor, 42% (9-21) from the three-point line and 72% (13-18) from the free throw line.
Hope Goodwine led both team as she scored 21 points including seven three-pointers along with five assists and three steals. Rahzirah Blocker added 17 points and eight rebounds while Taja Brown posted 13 points and four rebounds. Courtney Edmundo pulled down a team high 11 rebounds while adding three assists and four points. The team shot 38% (27-71) in the game, 29% (10-34) from the three-point line and 60% (6-10) from the free throw line.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday evening when they travel to Kean University for a 5:35pm NJAC matchup.
