#22 RAMAPO SWEEPS MONTCLAIR STATE

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team moved to 19-3 overall and remained undefeated in the NJAC at 8-0 overall with a sweep over Montclair State University. The Roadrunners won game one, 9-5 and game two, 5-1. The Red Hawks move to 12-14 overall and 2-6 in the conference.
 
Game One:
The Roadrunners, who are ranked #22 in the latest NFCA Top 25 Poll, saw themselves down 3-0 heading into the bottom of the first inning. Ramapo would the score runs in the next five innings to take a 9-3 lead heading into the seventh inning. Kori Gargiulo drove in the first two runs in the bottom of the first with a two-RBI single before Katie Rygiel tied the game with a sac fly in the second to plate Alex Hastings, 3-3. In the third, the Roadrunners took the lead for good when Kori Gargiulo laced a single up the middle which scored Avery Bartolomeo, 4-3. Alexis Corra plated two more runs in the fourth with a well-placed double to right field which allowed Lia Milsom and Rygiel to score, 6-3. Bartolomeo plated the third run of the inning with a sac fly to plate Corra, 7-3. In the fifth, Rygiel collected two more RBI with a double to right field that allowed Gargiulo an Hannah Hensler to cross home plate, 9-3. Montclair State got two back in the top of the seventh off reliever Brooke Knight before the Ramapo defense ended the bases loaded threat with a groundout to shortstop for the final out of the game, 9-5.
 
Marissa DiPaolo (7-0) surrendered two hits in the first inning including a three-run home run and then settled in to only let up three hits in the next four innings with five strikeouts. Knight entered to start the sixth inning and held on for the save, her fifth of the season with one strikeout. Ramapo tallied 11 hits in the game while Gargiulo finished 3-3 with three RBI and one runs scored. Corra finished 3-4 with two RBI and two runs scored while Rygiel finished 2-3 with three RBI and two runs scored.
 
Game Two:
Kassy Stefanski (7-2) tossed a three-hitter which included eight strikeouts and no walks in six innings of work in game two. The game was called after the top of the sixth inning due to darkness.
 
The Red Hawks took a 1-0 lead in the top of the third before Ramapo answered with two runs to take a 2-1 lead. With the bases loaded and one out, Gargiulo and Hensler each worked back-to-back walks to plate Corra and Mahogany Wheeler. In the fourth, Rygiel led off with a double and Corra singled before Wheeler belted her four homerun of the season to earn three RBI, 5-1.
 
Bartolomeo finished 2-3 while Wheeler finished 1-1 with three RBI, two runs scored and two walks.
 
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow afternoon when they travel to St. Joseph's University Brooklyn for a non-conference doubleheader starting at 3:00 PM.
