Brookville, NY: The #22 Ramapo College softball team swept St. Joseph's University – New York Brooklyn this afternoon on the road with scores of 6-2 in game one and 6-4 in game two. The Roadrunners win their 15th straight and improve to 21-3 overall. The Bears now stand at 10-6 overall.
Game One:
The Roadrunners saw themselves down 2-0 heading into the third inning before scoring one run to get on the board.
Avery Kontura singled home
Katie Rygiel with an RBI before Ramapo took the lead in the fourth.
Ysabellah Otero hit a solo home run to tie the game before
Alexis Corra's two-RBI single plated
Lia Milsom and Rygiel, 4-2. They tacked on two unearned runs in the fifth to extend the lead, 6-2.
Marissa DiPaolo (8-0) did not let up a hit with ten strikeouts as she earned the win in relief (4.2 innings pitched).
Mahogany Wheeler started in the circle for Ramapo where she struck out one and surrendered five hits and two runs in 2. 1 innings of work.
Game 2:
Ramapo was once again down 3-0 late in game two before coming back to score five runs in the fourth and one in the fifth. Roadrunner starting pitcher
Kassy Stefanski (8-2) struck out four, walked none and let up seven hits and four runs in 4.1 innings of work. Diaolo struck out the final two batters in the fifth to earn the save. In the fourth inning, the bases were loaded as
Kori Gargiulo was hit by a pitch to force home Wheeler to get Ramapo on the board. Otero laced a single up the middle plating two more to tie the game at three before
Hannah Hensler's double plated Gargiulo for a 4-3 lead. Clay'le Correa – Vanness then put down a sac bunt to allow Otero to cross home plate for a 5-3 lead. In the fifth, Wheeler led off with a double, moved to third on a groundout and later scored on a sac fly from Kontura, 6-3. The Bears scored one in the bottom of fifth before Ramapo got out of the jam with back-to-back strikeouts from DiPaolo. The Roadrunners put runners on second and third with just one out before the game was called due to darkness.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, April 13th when they host #13 ranked Rowan University in a pair of NJAC games starting at 1:00 PM.
