Newark, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept a pair of NJAC games on the road at Rutgers-Newark University, 7-0 in game one and 7-1 in game two. The Roadrunners, who recently moved up to #18 in the NFCA Top 25 poll, improved to 24-4 overall and 11-1 in the NJAC. The Scarlet Raiders drop to 5-21 overall and 3-9 in the conference.
Game 1:
Ramapo got on the board in the second inning when
Lia Milsom worked a bases loaded walk to form home
Hannah Hensler, 1-0.
Katie Rygiel then laced a single up the middle to plate two more runs before
Alexis Corra and
Avery Bartolomeo recorded a sac fly and single respectively to push the score, 5-0. In the seventh,
Ysabellah Otero drove home
Avery Kontura and Hensler with a hard hit single up the middle, 7-0.
Marissa DiPaolo (10-0) surrendered just three hits in five complete innings of work with one strikeout and no walks.
Brooke Knight faced seven batters in the final two innings of action as she let up just one hit and no runs.
Rygiel and Hensler each finished 3-4 at the plate in the game while Otero finished 2-3 with two RBI and one run scored.
Game 2:
The Roadrunners recorded ten hits in game two while scoring two runs in the first and second innings while they added three in the top of the seventh. In the first, Kontura belted a double to left-centerfield which allowed
Mahogany Wheeler and
Avery Bartolomeo to come around and score, 2-0. In the second, Otero scored on an RBI single from Rygiel before Wheeler plated Milsom with a sac fly, 4-0. The Scarlet Raiders got on the board in the sixth with an unearned run before Ramapo added their final three runs in the seventh. Otero drove home two runs with a single to left field as Clay'le Correa – Vaness and Kontra came around to score. Rygiel then laced a double to the left-center field gap which allowed
Kori Gargiulo to come around and score, 7-1.
Kassy Stefanski (9-3) struck out one, walked none and surrendered six hits and one unearned run in five complete innings of work to earn the victory. Knight worked the final two innings with three strikeouts, no walks while surrendering just one hit.
Rygiel, Kontura and Otero all finished with two hits and two RBI in the game while Wheeler finished 2-4 with one run scored and one RBI.
Ramapo returns to action on the road at Stockton University on Saturday, April 20th with a NJAC doubleheader beginning at 1:00 PM.
