Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team extended their win streak to seven games with a NJAC doubleheader sweep over the College of New Jersey today at the Athletic Center. The Roadrunners won game one, 9-1 in five innings and 2-1 in game two. Ramapo improves to 13-3 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC while the Lions drop to 13-5 overall and 0-2 in the league.
Game 1:
The Lions put one run on the board in the third with a RBI triple from Kaci Neveling before Avery Konturs drilled a solo home run in the fourth to tie the game, 1-1.
Katie Rygiel then singled home
Kori Gargiulo and
Mahogany Wheeler was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded as
Hannah Hensler scored, 3-1.
Avery Bartolomeo then extended the lead with a two RBI double plating both
Lia Milsom and Rygiel, 6-1. In the fifth, Rygiel,
Alexis Corra and Wheeler each drove in an RBI with singles to plate three more runs for the eight-run rule.
Marissa DiPaolo (5-0) struck out three, walked none and surrendered just one hit and one run in the complete game victory.
Game 2
Maya Knasiak put TCNJ on the board with a solo home run in the second before Bartolomeo tied things up with a sac fly to right field to plate Rygiel, 1-1. Both teams held the other in check during the game with great defense before Ramapo struck through in the seventh for the walk-off victory, 2-1. With the game tied at one in the top of the seventh,
Brooke Knight entered the circle for Ramapo in relief with two outs and runners on first and second. Knight worked a 3-2 count before retiring the Lions with a strikeout to end the threat. With one out in the bottom of the seventh, Bartolomeo laced a single to right field before being lifted for pinch runner Clay'le Correa-Vaness. Correa-Vaness then stole second before Kontura drilled a 3-2 pitch into the right-center field gap to plate the game-winning run, 2-1.
Knight (2-0) earned the win in relief with one strikeout.
Kassy Stefanski started the game today for Ramapo. She surrendered just one hit and one run in 6.2 innings of work.
Rygiel finished the day perfect at the plate (6-6) with three runs scored, two walks (one intentional) and two RBI. Milsom finished a combined 3-5 with two runs scored while Bartolomeo finished 3-6 with a team high four RBI.
Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, April 2nd when they travel to Rutgers-Camden University for a pair of NJAC games starting at 3:00 PM.
