Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept Hunter College, 9-0 in game one in five innings and 10-2 in game two in six innings. The Roadrunners move to 11-3 overall while the Hawks drop to 1-5 on the year.
Game 1:
Ramapo scored single runs in the first, second and third innings for a 3-0 lead. In the first,
Avery Bartolomeo plated
Alexis Corra with an RBI double for a 1-0 lead.
Mahogany Wheeler drove in
Katie Rygiel with an RBI single in the second before
Avery Kontura belted her team leading fourth home run of the season in the third inning to push the score to 3-0. Ramapo added six runs in the fourth inning with RBI singles from Kontura,
Ysabellah Otero and
Kori Gargiulo. Lia Milson put down a sac bunt which allowed Otero to score before Rygiel plated the final two runs of the game with a double to left field, 9-0.
The Roadrunners belted out 15 hits in the game as Rygiel and Wheeler each finished with three hits. Wheeler earned the win in the circle as she worked four complete innings surrendering just three hits with one strikeout.
Marissa DiPaolo worked the final inning with one strikeout while letting up just one hit.
Game 2:
Ramapo struck first in game two with two runs in the second as Rygiel drove home two with a double to centerfield. In the fourth, Hunter tied the game with two runs of their own before Ramapo scored five in the fourth inning. Lia Milson plated the go-ahead run with a big sac fly to right field which allowed Gargiulo to score for a 3-2 lead. Rygiel added one more RBI to her resume on the day with an RBI single which plated Otero. Wheeler then recorded a bases loaded three RBI double down the left field line which extended the score, 7-2. Niah Murphy scored on Gargiulo's RBI single before
Hannah Hensler drove in two RBI with a hard hit single to center field for the 10-2 eight run-rule victory.
Rygiel and Gargiulo each recorded three hits in the game to lead the Roadrunners. DiPaolo (4-0) earned the win in relief as she did not let up a hit in the final two innings of work. Kassy Stefansky worked four full innings with one strikeout. She surrendered five hits and two runs, both unearned.
Ramapo returns to action on Thursday, March 27th when they host Mount Saint Mary College at 3:00 PM.
