Clermont, FL: The Ramapo College softball team (4-2) split a pair of games today at THE Spring Games. Bowdoin College defeated the Roadrunners 9-5 in game one while Ramapo came back to beat Amherst College, 4-3 in eight innings.
Game 1:
Ramapo scored two runs in the top of the first inning on a
Mahogany Wheeler two-run homerun. The Bears would come back with seven unanswered runs in the next three innings to take a 7-2 lead. Ramapo added one run in the fifth when
Katie Rygiel drove home
Ysabellah Otero with an RBI single. Bowdoin added two runs in the sixth before the Roadrunners tacked on two runs in the seventh with two outs before the Bears got out of the jam. Rygiel singled and Corra laced a double to left-center field to put runners on second and third. Rygiel scored on a pass ball before Bartolomeo plated Corra with an RBI single. The Bears would end the threat with a strikeout to preserve the 9-5 win.
Kassy Stefanski (2-1) took the loss in relief working the final 5.2 innings with five strikeouts and one walk. She surrendered 11 hits and seven runs.
Sara Cappetti started in the circle for Ramapo, earning the no-decision as she let up two hits, two runs and two walks in 0.1 innings of work.
Game 2:
Amhrest scored three runs in the first inning before Ramapo came back to walk it off in the bottom of the eighth. The Roadrunners tacked on two in the bottom of the first. A bases loaded walk to
Avery Kontura plated the first run while an infield single from
Hannah Hensler plated the second. Ramapo would tie the game in the bottom of the seventh inning to tie the game, 3-3. Wheeler led off with a double and with two outs Hensler belted a double to the left-center field gap which allowed Wheeler to score the tying run. The Roadrunners held Amherst in the top of the eighth which set up the walk-off victory.
Lia Milsom pinch ran and started on second base due to the international tie-breaker rule. Otero put down a perfect bunt single to put runners at the corners with no outs. The Mammoths would get a strikeout and ground out before Corra laced a single to deep right field which allowed Milsom to score the game-winning run, 4-3.
Brook Knight (1-0) went the distance for the Roadrunners in the circle. She struck out eight, walked three and let up just four hits and three runs. Wheeler and Hensler led the way with two hits each while Hensler added two RBI.
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow morning at 9:00 AM with a game against Worcester State University and Middlebury College at 1:45 PM.
