WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EARNS #5 SEED IN UPCOMING NJAC TOURNAMENT

RAMAPO FALLS TO WPU IN FINAL REGULAR SEASON GAME

Wayne, NJ:  The William Paterson University women's basketball team earned a 69-50 win over Ramapo College tonight in the final regular season game of the year. The Pioneers move to 11-14 overall and 9-9 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 15-10 overall and 11-7 in the league.

Ramapo earns the #5 seed in the upcoming NJAC Women's Basketball Tournament where they will travel to #4 Stockton University for a first-round game on Saturday, Feb. 17th at 1:00 PM. This is the third straight conference tournament the Roadrunners have qualified for, a first in program history.
 
WPU jumped out to a quick lead and never looked back as they held off a second half comeback by the Roadrunners. The Pioneers held Ramapo to under 15 points in each quarter of action and took a 37-22 lead into halftime. WPU saw three players score in double figures in the game as Brianna Smith and Renee Wells each scored 14 points while Mattison Chiera added ten points and four assists. Menna Hafiz grabbed a team high eight rebounds while adding six points. The Pioneers shot 40% (22-54) from the field, 38% (7-18) from the three-point line and 66% (18-27) from the free throw line. They scored 18 points and 18 points off Ramapo turnovers.
 
For the Roadrunners, Shannon Burns posted a career high 17 points while adding six rebounds and one blocked shot. Alison Ahern posted eight points and six rebounds along with one assist and one blocked shot while Jackie Ventricelli posted seven points, three assists and two steals. Ramapo shot 36% (20-55) from the field, 18% (2-11) from the three-point line and 66% (8-12) from the free throw line. Ramapo scored 34 points in the paint along with 14 second chance points in the game.
