Galloway, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team won their first NJAC Tournament game in program history this afternoon, 63-52, against #4 Stockton University. The #5 Roadrunners improve to 16-10 overall while the Ospreys drop to 15-11 on the year.
Ramapo advances to the NJAC semifinals for the first time with the win and will take on #1 College of New Jersey on Tuesday, Feb. 20th at 7:00 PM at TCNJ. Ramapo pulled away in the second quarter and outscored the Ospreys, 19-10, to take a 32-24 lead into the locker room. Ramapo closed out the half with a mini 4-0 run with a pair of free throws from
Olivia Johnstone and a jumper from
Karly Wittenbauer. The Ramapo defense once again held Stockton in the third quarter, 18-12. Ramapo opened the third quarter on an 11-5 run to extend their lead to 14. The run included three-pointers from Johnstone and Ventricelli to cap off the run, 43-29. Ramapo led 50-36 heading into the final ten minutes of action. Stockton cut the lead to seven with 2:20 on the clock in the fourth before Ramapo answered with a pair of free throws from Wittenbauer and one of two from
Jada Thompson to extend the lead back to ten with 33 seconds remaining. Ramapo scored their final points from the free throw line as Ventricelli and Johnston each converted on a pair of free throws, 63-52.
Thompson recorded her 13th double double of the year with 22 points and 13 rebounds while adding four steals and two assists. Ventricelli and Johnstone each added ten points while Ventricelli contributed with three steals and four rebounds. Johnstone connected on two three-pointers and one blocked shot.
Shannon Burns tallied nine points and six rebounds while Wittenbauer contributed with eight points, five rebounds, three steals and two assists. Ramapo scored 28 points in the paint, ten second chance points and 12 points off the bench. The team shot 37% (19-51) from the field, 30% (4-13) from the three-point line and 70% (21-30) from the free throw line.
Stockton was led by Emma Morrone who posted 11 points and five rebounds while Skylar Fowlkes posted ten points and eight rebounds. Grace Speer added nine points and Katie Rausch posted eight points. The team shot 29% (19-64) from the field, 26% (6-23) from the three-point line and 50% (8-16) from the free throw line.
