Montclair, NJ: The Montclair State University men's soccer team defeated Ramapo College 3-1 tonight in NJAC action. The Red Hawks, who are ranked #19 in the latest United Soccer Coaches Top 25 poll and #1 in Region IV, move to 12-3-1 overall and 6-1 in the NJAC. The Roadrunners, who are ranked #7 in Region IV, now stand at 8-3-4 overall and 3-2-2 in the conference.
Neither team scored in the first half before each scored a goal within 20 seconds of each other in the second half. Ramapo got on the board first with a goal by
Jack Hosmer, his sixth of the season. Hosmer headed the ball into the back of the net off a cross from Jalal Kahlifeh with 50:05 on the clock. MSU would answer right back with 50:24 on the board as Osbin Mendez tallied his fifth of the season. Andre Shelton earned the assist. The Red Hawks would break the tie in the 77th minute with a goal from Samuel Epitime with Owen Murphy earning the assist before they scored an insurance goal in the 89th minute with a goal from Logan Neno, 3-1.
Ramapo and MSU each recorded seven shots on goal in the game. For the Roadrunners,
Gianfranco Ponce (22nd minute) and Kahlifeh (26th minute) each hit the post in the first half while Ponce's shot in the 68th minute of the game banked off the crossbar. Ramapo earned four corner kicks to MSU's two.
Nikolai Matthews posted four saves for the Roadrunners while Alexander Velasquez tallied six for MSU including four in the second half.
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, October 26th when they travel to Rowan University for a NJAC game at 1pm. The Profs are ranked #13 in the top 25 and #2 in Region IV.
