WOMEN'S BASKETBALL TAKES DOWN ROWAN, 63-51

Glassboro, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team earned a key NJAC road victory today over Rowan University, 63-51, The Roadrunners improve to 13-7 overall and 9-4 in the NJAC while the Profs drop to 9-11 overall and 6-7 in the league.
 
Ramapo opened the game going on a 5-0 run before the Profs got on the board with 8:11 on the clock. A free throw from Jada Thompson and back to back jumpers from Karly Wittenbauer put the Roadrunners up 5-0. The two teams traded shots before Rowan finished the quarter on a 6-0 run which gave them a three-point lead, 12-9. Ramapo opened the second with an and-one play and a bucket from Shannon Burns before Jackie Ventricelli sank a three-pointer for a 17-12 lead. Up two with 4:26 on the clock Ramapo went on a 7-0 run to wrap up the second quarter as Ventricelli sank another three-pointer as the Roadrunners led nine at halftime, 28-19.
 
Rowan took a one point lead 30-29 in the third quarter as they opened with a 10-1 run before Thompson scored a layup for the Roadrunners to regain the lead, 31-30. A Rowan free throw tied the game at 31 all before Thompson went on a mini 5-0 run of her own to put Ramapo back up five with four minutes left. Rowan scored back-to-back baskets to end the quarter and shrink the Ramapo lead to just one, 38-37. In the final quarter of action, the Profs went up one with 9:09 on the clock with a pair of free throws from Kate Herlihy before Ramapo regained the lead for good as Ventricelli started a 7-0 run with back-to-back jumpers before Oliva Johnstone sank a key three-pointer for a 45-39 lead. Rowan once again cut it to one with just over five to play before Ramapo stretched the lead to nine with a 6-1 run, 54-45. In the last minute of action the Roadrunners scored from the free throw line and extended their lead to twelve, the biggest lead of the game, 63-51.
 
Thompson and Ventricelli each posted 19 points in the victory. Thompson added 13 rebounds and three steals while Ventricelli added six steals, five rebounds and three assists. Burns posted nine points, Wittenbauer added eight points, three rebounds and two steals while Johnstone contributed with six points and four assists. Ramapo shot 35% (23-64) from the floor, 28% (4-14) from the three-point line and 59% (13-22) from the free throw line. The Roadrunners scored 29 points off Prof turnovers as the Ramapo defense forced 22 Rowan turnovers.
 
Rowan's leading scorer was Nicole Mallard with 20 points while Herlihy added 13 and Eliana Santana posted 12 points and nine rebounds. The Profs shot 39% (18-46) from the field, 11% (2-17) from the three-point line and 65% (13-20) from the free throw line.
 
Ramapo returns to action on the road on Wednesday, January 31st when they take on New Jersey City University at 5:30 PM in another key NJAC game.
