Mahwah, NJ: The Stockton University women's basketball team snapped the Roadrunners' eight game win streak today as the Ospreys held on for a 61-51 road win. The Ospreys move to 12-6 overall and 9-2 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 11-6 overall and 8-3 in the conference.
Stockton would open up a 20-9 lead in the first quarter before Ramapo outscored them in the second 14-12. The Ospreys took a nine point lead into the locker room before Ramapo cut the lead to just two with 3:03 left in the third. Down 12 with 7:52 on the clock
Alison Ahern started a 13-3 run.
Jackie Ventricelli and
Olivia Johnstone sank back-to-back three-pointers for the Roadrunners to cut the lead to four before Grace Speer sank one for the Ospreys to go back up seven. Ahern scored the final five points in the run to cut the lead to just two, 38-40, before Imene Fathi sank a three-pointer and Trina Bethea-Deveny scored a layup for the final points of the quarter. Stockton extended the lead to nine heading into the final quarter of action. With 5:46 left in the game the Ospreys pushed the lead to fourteen, 55-41. Ramapo would go on a 10-3 run to cut the lead to six with 52 seconds remaining on a jumper from
Karly Wittenbauer. Stockton would score their final four points from the free throw line.
Jada Thompson posted her sixth double double in a row as she finished with ten points, 12 rebounds while she added six assists. Ventricelli posted ten points and a team high six steals while Ahern added ten points. Wittenbauer contributed with eight points while Johnstone added seven and four assists. Ramapo forced 22 Stockton turnovers which led to 22 points for the Roadrunners. Ramapo shot 37% (20-54) from the field, 25% (5-19) from the three-point line and 42% (6-14) from the free throw line.
Stockton was led by Speer who tallied 18 points and nine rebounds while Fathi added 12 points, five assists and three rebounds. Stockton shot 42% (19-45) from the field, 58% (7-12) from the three-point line and 88% (16-18) from the free throw line.
Ramapo returns to action on Monday, January 22nd when they host Pratt Institute in the final non-conference game of the season at 7:00 PM.
