SOFTBALL SPLITS IN FINAL DAY OF THE SPRING GAMES

Auburndale, FL: The Ramapo College Softball team won the first game of the day over Nichols College before they saw their eight game win streak snapped in game two with a loss to Hamilton College. The Roadrunners moved to 11-3 on the year.
 
Game 1
In the top of the first inning, Avery Kontura laced a double to the right-center field gap which allowed Alexis Corra and Mahogany Wheeler to come around and score for an early 2-0 lead. Nichols College would tie the game in the third before Ramapo retook the lead for good in the top of the fourth. Nicole Cerasi came around and scored on an error in the outfield before Katie Rygiel poked a single up the middle for an RBI single to plate Jaclyn Monaco, 4-2. Rygiel later scored on an RBI groundout from Avery Bartolomeo to extend the lead, 5-2. The Bison scored one run in the fourth on a wild pitch, 5-3, before Ramapo one unearned run in the fifth and one unearned run in the sixth. Cerasi laced a ground-rule double down the left field line which allowed Kori Gargiulo to score, 6-3. In the sixth, Bartolomeo scored on an infield error off the bat of Kontura for a 7-3 lead. The Bison would make pull within one of tying the game in the seventh with three runs, 7-6, before Ramapo reliever Kassy Sefanski would induce a ground out to end the threat. The Roadrunners earned their 11th win of the season in the victory.
 
Sefanski (3-1) earned the win in relief working the final three innings. She struck out three, walked one and let up four hits and three runs. Marissa DiPaolo started the game for Ramapo, she struck out two, walked one and scattered four hits while surrendering three runs (one earned). Brooke Knight saw action in 0.2 innings of work, she did not give up a hit or run while she struck out one and walked four.
 
The Roadrunners pounded out 12 hits in the game as Monaco led the way finishing 3-4 with one run scored. Rygiel, Wheeler and Bartolomeo each collected two hits each.
 
Game 2
Hamilton scored single runs in the first and third innings to take a 2-0 lead before Ramapo tied the game in the bottom of the third, 2-2. Bartolomeo drove home Monaco with an RBI single while Corra was able to score on the play as the ball was misplayed in the outfield. Hamilton scored four runs in the fifth before Ramapo tacked on three in the bottom half of the inning as Hamilton led, 6-5. Neither team would push a run across in the sixth before Hamilton capitalized with five runs in the top of the seventh to extend their lead, 11-5. Ramapo scratched one run across in the bottom of the seventh before Hamilton got out of a bases loaded jam and secured the final two outs to hold onto the non-conference victory.
 
Kassy Stefanski (3-2) suffered the loss in relief in three innings of work. She struck out three, walked one and let up eight runs (four earned) and nine hits. Ramapo pounded out 13 hits in the game while Rygiel and Monaco each collected three hits. Bartolomeo, Messina and Cerasi each tallied two hits while Monaco recorded two stolen bases in the game.
 
Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, March 21st when they travel to Mount Saint Mary College for a non-conference double header starting at 3pm.
