RAMAPO EARNS 10TH WIN OF THE SEASON IN TWO GAME SWEEP

Kissimmee, FL:  The Ramapo College softball team extended their win streak to seven games with a pair of wins today at THE Spring Games. The Roadrunners defeated the University of New England, 9-4, and Wheaton College (MA), 9-7. Ramapo moves to 10-2 overall.
 
Game 1
UNE went up 2-0 in the top of the first inning before Ramapo tied the game in the bottom of the second with a two-run home run off the bat of Nicole Cerasi while Avery Kontura also scored, 2-2. Kontura put Ramapo up 4-2 in the third inning as she drove home Alexis Corra and Mahogany Wheeler with a double to the right-center field gap. Brooke Knight then drove in Kontura with an RBI single to extend the lead, 5-2. UNE would score two runs in the fourth to cut the Ramapo lead to just one before Corra and Kontura hit back-to-back home runs. In the bottom of the fourth,  Jaclyn Monaco and Katie Rygiel each singled before Corra drilled her second home run of the season for a three-run home run, 8-4. Kontura then hit her first career home run to score the ninth run for the Roadrunners.
 
Marisa DiPaolo (4-0) earned the win in relief in four innings of work. She struck out seven, walked three and scattered just two hits. Kontura and Corra led the way at the plate with three RBI each while Kontura finished 3-4 with three runs scored and Corra finished 2-3 with two runs scored. Wheeler and Monaco each recorded two hits and one run scored.
 
Game 2
Wheaton took a 2-0 lead after the first inning of play before Ramapo tied the game with two runs in the top of the second. Cerasi walked, stole second and then stole third, the throw down to third sailed wide allowing Cerasi to score to cut the Wheaton lead in half. Monaco reached on a bunt single and later scored on Rygiel's hard hit single to center field, 2-2. Wheaton would take a 4-2 lead in the bottom half of the second before Ramapo scored two runs in the fourth to tie the game, 4-4. Corra plated Cerasi with a sac fly for the first run while Wheeler laced a double down the left field line to score Rygiel to tie the game. In the fifth, Ramapo scored two runs as Cerasi put down a sac bunt which allowed Alex Hastings to cross home plate before Messina scored on an infield error, 6-4. In the sixth, Kontura drove home Wheeler with an RBI single and Avery Bartolomeo later scored on a wild pitch to extend the lead, 9-4. Wheaton would get three runs back in the seventh on a three-run home run before Ramapo was able to close the door and preserve the 9-7 victory.
 
Wheeler (4-1) earned the win in relief as she struck out two, walked none and scattered three hits over the final 5.2 innings of work. Corra and Hastings each collected two hits in the game while Cerasi and Rygiel each plated two RBI.
 
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow morning when they take on Nichols College (9am) and Hamilton College (2pm) in their final day at THE Spring Games.
