THOMPSON DOUBLE-DOUBLE LEADS RAMAPO OVER NJCU, 58-48

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team defeated NJAC rival New Jersey City University tonight at the Bradley Center, 58-48. The Roadrunners move to 4-5 overall, 2-2 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights now stand at 5-3 overall while they suffer their first loss in conference play and move to 3-1 in the NJAC.
 
Three Roadrunners scored in double figures as Jada Thompson led the way with a double double of 17 points and 16 rebounds while adding six assists and three steals. Karly Wittenbauer added 10 points, four rebounds, three assists and one blocked shot while Reilly Sheeley scored a career high ten points. Sheeley also contributed with three rebounds, one assist and one steal and Lauren Flatt added seven points. Ramapo shot 46% (22-47) from the field, 27% (3-11) from the three-point line and 73% (11-15) from the free throw line in the game. The Roadrunners forced 19 NJCU turnovers which led to 12 points for Ramapo.
 
Damaris Rodriguez led NJCU with 17 points, five rebounds and four steals while Alaisha Mumford and Tahriah Kelley contributed with seven and six points respectively. The Gothic Knights shott 29% (17-57) from the floor, 8% (2-24) and 75% (12-16) from the free throw line. NJCU forced 25 Ramapo turnovers in the game which led to 19 points for the Gothic Knights.
 
Ramapo and NJCU each played a strong first quarter as the Roadrunners scored the final four points with jumpers from Sheeley and Alison Ahern to take a 17-14 lead. In the second, the Roadrunners held NJCU to just two made baskets and two free throws as they opened up a 15 point lead, 32-17, off a basket from Sheeley with 1:21 left in the quarter. Na'Torri Postell sank a free throw and Rodriguez connected on a layup in the final seconds to cut the lead as Ramapo held a 32-20 lead heading into halftime. Ramapo started the third quarter on a 9-2 point run as Wittenbauer started it off with a jumper and capped off with a jumper from Kellie Martinez for a 41-22 lead with 4:21 on the clock. NJCU cut the lead to nine before Flatt sank a basket with 12 seconds remaining for a 45-35 lead. The Roadrunners opened the fourth once again on a 10-0 run. Martinez started the run with a three-pointer before Sheeley sank a pair of free throws and Thompson converted an and-one play. Thompson later capped off the run with a pair of free throws as they took the biggest lead of the game 55-34 with 6:11 left on the clock. NJCU went on a 13-0 run to shrink the lead to just seven with 1:10 left to play before Sheeley sank a pair of free throws, 57-48. Thompson was later fouled, sending her to the line, converting one of two before the ball was tipped out by NJCU on the rebound giving Ramapo the ball with 37 second remaining.
 
Ramapo returns to action on Saturday, December 9th when they host Montclair State University (5-4/3-1 NJAC) in a NJAC game at 3:00 PM.
