THOMPSON NETS CAREER HIGH 28 POINTS IN TOUGH LOSS AT KEAN

Union, NJ:  The Kean University women's basketball team held on for a, 68-64, NJAC conference win over Ramapo College tonight at Hardwood Arena. Both teams now stand at 3-4 overall and 1-1 in the NJAC.
 
Jada Thompson led the Roadrunners with a season high 28 points as she finished 10-19 from the field and 8-12 from the free throw line. Thompson added six steals, seven rebounds and tied a career high with eight assists. Shannon Bruns recorded nine points and Olivia Johnstone posted seven while Alison Ahern collected seven rebounds in the game.
 
Kean took a 14-point lead into the locker room at halftime, 36-22, after holding Ramapo to just five points in the second quarter. A free throw from Ahern in the third quarter started an 8-0 run for the Roadrunners which cut the Cougar lead to six with 7:10 left to play. Kean sank a basket before Johnstone hit a three-pointer off a dish from Thompson to shrink the lead to just five with 5:31 left in the third. The Cougars stretched their lead back to 11 with an and-one play from Maya Edwards, 51-50. A basket from Reilly Sheeley and a made free throw from Thompson were the final points in the third as Kean held a 51-43 lead.
 
The Roadrunners opened the fourth on a 12-2 run as Karly Wittenbauer sank back-to-back jumpers to take a 55-53 lead. A three-pointer from Gissel Gamble gave Kean back the lead before Ramapo later re-tied the game at 58 (5:02) with a free throw from Thompson. A layup from Sarah Weber and another three from Gamble sandwiched between a free throw from Thompson saw the Cougars with a four point lead, 63-69 (1:33). Ramapo would cut the lead to just one with a pair of free throws from Thompson which capped off a 5-2 run for Ramapo with just 24 seconds left in the game. Brittany Graff would score the final three points for either team on the free throw line to close out the game, 68-64.
 
Ramapo shot 41% (25-60) from the field, 16% (2-12) from the three-point line and 54% (12-22) from the free throw line. Ramapo forced 18 Cougar turnovers which led to 19 points for the Roadrunners.
 
The Cougars were led by Gamble who posted 25 points including seven made three-pointers. Graff added 16 points, five assists and seven rebounds while Edwards recorded seven rebounds and 14 points. Sarah Weber led the way with nine rebounds while Riley Ahrens and Macy Seaman each collected eight in the game. The Cougars shot 36% (22-61) from the floor, 37% (10-27) from the three-point line and 60% (14-23) from the free throw line.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, December 2nd when they travel to Stockton University (4-3/2-0 NJAC) for a NJAC game at 1:00pm.
