New York, NY: The John Jay College women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College 64-59 in non-conference action. The Roadrunners move to 1-1 overall while the Bloodhounds move to 2-1 on the year.
The Bloodhounds used a strong fourth quarter to take a late lead in the game en route to a 64-59 win. Chayanne Kelly connected on 5-6 from beyond the three-point line and finished with 24 points for John Jay while Ashley Zeolla added 16 points and Kelly Hamond posted a double-double of 12 points and ten rebounds. The Bloodhounds shot 41% (25-60) from the field, 77% (7-9) from the three-point line and 63% (7-11) from the free throw line. The team out rebounded the Roadrunners 49-37.
The Roadrunners were led by
Jackie Ventricelli who poured in 30 points as she finished with four three-pointers. Ventricelli also recorded a team high seven steals while grabbing four rebounds.
Shannon Burns tacked on ten points, six rebounds, two steals and high two blocks while
Jada Thompson led the way with 15 rebounds, nine points, three steals and two blocks. The Ramapo defense forced 27 John Jay turnovers in the game which led to 20 points for the Roadrunners. The team shot 32% (21-64) from the field, 33% (5-15) from the three-point line and 54% (12-22) from the free throw line in the game. Ramapo's largest lead in the game was 43-37 in the third quarter off an and-one play from Ventricelli.
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, November 15th when they host York College (NY) in non-conference action at the Bradley Center at 5:30 PM.
