KEAN WOMEN'S BASKETBALL EARNS 70-50 WIN OVER RAMAPO

Union, NJ: The Kean University women's basketball team earned a key NJAC conference victory over Ramapo College tonight at Harwood Arena, 70-50. The Cougars move to 11-8 over and 9-3 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners now stand at 14-5 overall and 8-4 in the NJAC.
 
In the first quarter, Kean led by three following a three-pointer from Brittany Graff, 7-4. Ramapo went on an 8-2 run to take a 12-9 lead as Jada Thompson scored back-to-back baskets for the Roadrunners. The two teams traded baskets before Kean's Shannon McCoy and Ramapo's Jackie Ventricelli both sank a three-pointer as Ramapo led 17-14 with 40 seconds remaining on the clock. Shahd Badeer scored a basket for the Cougars while McCoy drained a three-pointer as time expired to give Kean a 19-17 lead.
 
The Cougars opened the second quarter on a 7-0 run to extend their lead, 26-17 before Ramapo went on a 7-1 run of their own. Thompson started the run with a jumper before Carley Martin hit a big three-pointer with 4:59 on the clock to come within four, 22-26. Macy Seaman scored on a free throw before Marin scored a layup to come within three, 24-27. McCoy would score Kean's final six points in the second quarter while Thompson added three for the Roadrunners and Burns contributed with a pair of free throws. Kean went into the locker room at halftime with a 33-29 lead.
 
Kean pushed their lead to 48-31 in the third quarter as they went on a 14-2 run before Cahill sank a jumper for the Roadrunners with under four minutes to play. Ramapo closed out the third with adding nine points as Johnstone hit a three-pointer at the buzzer to come within ten, 42-52. The Cougars held Ramapo to just eight points in the fourth quarter enroute to a twenty point NJAC victory, 70-50.
 
McCoy led the Cougars with 21 points as she finished with four three-pointers along with ten rebounds. Graff added 17 points, a team high six assists and four steals while Seaman and Sarah Olivero each contributed with nine points. Kean shot 40% (29-71) from the field, 29% (7-24) from the three-point line and 45% (5-11) from the free throw line.
 
The Roadrunners were led by Ventricelli with 14 points while she added three rebounds. Thompson added nine points and a team high three steals. Olivia Johnstone and Carley Martin each posted seven points in the game while Burns led the team with nine rebounds and three blocks while adding five points. Ramapo shot 40% (19-47) from the field, 27% (3-11) from the three-point line and 64% (9-14) from the free throw line.
 
The Roadrunners return to action at the Bradley Center on Saturday, January 28th when they host Rowan University in a NJAC conference contest at 3pm.
