Mahwah, NJ: The New Jersey Athletic Conference announced the 2023 Men's Volleyball Preseason Coaches' Poll this afternoon. The Roadrunners are tabbed to finish 4th in the league.
The Roadrunners, under the direction of first-year head coach Martiza Melendez, will open the 2023 season on tonight as they travel to non-conference foe Rutgers-Newark University for a 7pm match. The Scarlet Raiders are ranked #9 in the most recent AVCA Top 15 National Poll. Ramapo will play its first home match of the season on Saturday, January 21st when they host Wisconsin Lutheran College in non-conference action at 1pm. The team will take on seven opponents currently ranked in the AVCA Top 15 National Poll including four teams in the top five. The four NJAC teams play each other once through the season and the conference champion is based on the overall NJAC conference standings.
Coach Melendez inherits a team that won the 2022 ECAC Men's Volleyball Championship last spring as they defeated Penn State Altoona, 3-1 (23-25, 27-25, 25-9, 26-24) at the Bradley Center. The team has won six ECAC Titles in program history including: 2003, 2005, 2006, 2007, 2012 and 2022.
Andrew Finnegan and
Conor Charlow, who each earned Skyline First Team All-Conference last season, return to lead the Roadrunners this season. Finnegan led Ramapo on offense in 2022 with 277 kills, 3.51 per set while he also posted a team high 26 aces, 145 digs and 15 total blocks. Charlow collected a team high 64 blocks including a team best 24 solo blocks while he added 154 kills and 25 aces.
JoJo Meyer and
Jack DiGirolamo are also returning to the 2023 squad. Meyer posted 341 assists last season and 24 aces while adding 133 digs. DiGirolamo posted 53 blocks including 17 solo blocks while he recorded 97 kills and 17 aces.
