Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team posted a come from behind victory over NJAC rival the College of New Jersey today at the Bradley Center, 45-36. The Roadrunners improve to 12-3 overall and 7-2 in the conference while the Lions now stand at 11-5 overall and 6-3 in the conference.
The Roadrunners used a 20-2 run to close out the game to earn the key NJAC victory. TCNJ sank a three-pointer with 7:42 on the clock from Julia Sertaro before
Bridget Cahill sank a three-pointer for Ramapo which started the Roadrunner comeback, 28-34.
Reilly Sheeley made a jumper before Cahill sank her second three-pointer during the run to come within one and
Jackie Ventricelli recorded a steal and fast-break jumper to take the lead, 35-34, for the first time in the game with 4:52 on the clock. Cahill connected on a jumper before
Jada Thompson sank a pair of free throws for a 39-34 lead. TCNJ snapped the 14-2 Ramapo run with a jumper from Nina Branchizio, the basket cut the Roadrunner lead to just three with 3:10 on the clock. The Roadrunners continued to hold the lead as they wrapped up the fourth quarter on a 6-0 run. Thompson made a jumper before she added a free throw with 1:12 on the clock for a 42-36 lead. Ventricelli made one of two free throws before Thompson scored the final points for Ramapo, also on the free throw line, 45-36.
The Roadrunners were led by Ventricelli who tallied 17 points, eight rebounds, four steals and three assists. Thompson led the Roadrunners from the free throw line (7-10) while she posted 13 points, seven rebounds and three steals. Cahill added 11 points including a team high three made three-pointers. The Roadrunners shot 34% (16-47) from the floor in the game while they shot 50% in the final quarter of action. They shot 35% (5-14) from the three-point line and 57% (8-14) from the free throw line. The Ramapo defense forced 16 TCNJ turnovers which led to 11 points for the Roadrunners in the game.
Setaro led the Lions on the court with a team high 14 points including four made three-pointers. Kaitlyn Deiter added seven points and four rebounds while Izzy Leazier led the way with seven rebounds while adding four points. TCNJ shot 25% (15-55) from the floor in the game, 18% (5-27) from the three-point line and 50% (3-6) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action tomorrow afternoon on the road at Pratt Institute in a non-conference game at 12pm.
