Brooklyn, NY: The Ramapo College women's basketball team won their second straight game and improved to 13-3 overall as they defeated Pratt Institute, 60-31. The Cannoneers now stand at 1-14 on the year.
Pratt opened the game with back-to-back baskets for a quick 4-0 lead before the Roadrunners went on an 8-2 run for an 8-6 lead. The Cannoneers' sank a three-pointer from Kylie Grant putting them up 9-8 before
Marie Eid and
Alison Ahern scored back-to-back baskets for Ramapo to end the first quarter up, 12-9. Ramapo held Pratt to just four points in the second quarter as they stretched their lead, 23-13, at halftime.
The Roadrunners scored 21 points in the third and held Pratt to eight points while they added 17 in the fourth and held the Cannoneers to nine points. For the second straight game the Ramapo defense held their opponent to under 38 points in a game. Ramapo forced 11 turnovers in today's game. The Roadrunners were led by Ahern who posted career highs of 12 points and 12 rebounds while
Carley Martin added ten points and two assists.
Karly Wittenbauer and
Salma Eddahiri each collected eight points while Whittenbauer grabbed eight rebounds and Eddahiri added seven.
Olivia Cosenzo recorded seven points and five rebounds and four assists while
Brianna Michel Carter added a career high six points and five rebounds.
Daria Pontone posted a career high 11 rebounds while adding four points and two blocks while
Marie Eid contributed with four points and four rebounds and
Reilly Sheeley added two points and two steals. The Roadrunners shot 37% (28-75) from the field, 27% (3-11) from the three-point line and perfect from the free throw line at 2-2.
Pratt was led by Grant with 19 points, nine rebounds, two blocks and two steals while Rohama Tewodros grabbed nine rebounds and added four points. Kinako Miyake posted five points, two blocks and two rebounds. The team shot 16% (10-62) from the field in the game, 23% (3-13) from the three-point line and 58% (7-12) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, January 18th when they travel to NJAC rival Rutgers-Newark University for a 6pm game.
