SOFTBALL SPLITS AT STEVENS IN NON-CONFERENCE ACTION

Weehawken, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team split a pair of non-conference games this afternoon on the road at Stevens Institute of Technology. The Roadrunners now stand at 15-6 overall while the Ducks move to 7-11 overall.

Game One
The first game resumed from a weather delay on April 21st in the second inning with the score tied 3-3. Ramapo would take a 4-3 lead in the top of the third inning as Katie Rygiel laced a double to left-center field, scoring Alexis Corra and Mahogany Wheeler. In the fourth inning, Stevens took a 5-4 lead when Julia Barber connected on a two-run home run.

Stevens got out of a jam in the top of the seventh inning. With no outs and Roadrunners on first and second, Stevens turned a 5-3 double play before recording the final out of the game on a bouncing ball up the middle. The Ducks shortstop fielded and stepped on second for the force out to end the game.

Wheeler (6-5) posted three strikeouts while she scattered five hits. She surrendered five runs (two earned) in the loss.

Game Two
In the top of the first inning, Alexis Corra reached on a fielder's choice, moved to second on Wheeler's single and later scored on Rygiel's hard hit single to right field, 1-0. Ramapo added six runs in the third. With one out Corra singled before Wheeler was hit by a pitch, Rygiel reached on a fielder's choice before a throwing error on the play allowed Corra to score, 2-0. Marissa DiPaolo and Jaclyn Monaco each drew bases-loaded walks to force home Wheeler and Avery Bartolomeo, 4-0. Krista Verrino poked a RBI single to right field plating DiPaolo while Messina and Monaco also scored on the play when the ball was misplayed in the outfield, 7-0.

The Roadrunners added one run in the fourth when Wheeler beat out an infield single, moved to second on a single from Rygiel and moved to third on a wild pitch. Bartolomeo then lifted a sac fly to center field allowing Wheeler to score, 8-0. The Ducks added one run in the bottom of the fourth before Ramapo added two more in the fifth. Kendall Lafferty led off the inning with a single before Monaco put down a bunt single of her own and Verrino walked to load the bases. Corra plated Monaco with a sac fly before Verrino later scored on a wild pitch, 10-1.

DiPaolo (8-1) struck out nine, walked three and scattered four hits in the five inning victory. Wheeler, Rygiel and Bartolomeo each collected two hits in the game for the Roadrunners.
