Camden, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team swept a NJAC doubleheader on the road at Rutgers-Camden University this afternoon. The Roadrunners improve to 17-6 overall, 8-2 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raptors now stand at 6-13 overall and 3-7 in the conference.

Game One
Rutgers-Camden took a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the second before Ramapo exploded for five runs in the top of the third inning.
Carli Egan drove home
Krista Verrino and
Jaclyn Monaco with a ground-rule double before
Mahogany Wheeler plated Egan with a double to tie the game, 3-3.
Avery Bartolomeo then laced a ground-rule double to right-center field which allowed Wheeler to score, 4-3 before Bartolomeo later scored on a wild pitch, 5-3. In the fourth inning,
Alexis Corra belted a two-run home run, which plated Egan to extend the Roadrunner lead, 7-3. In the fifth, Rutgers-Camden would come back to score three runs, all unearned as they came within one, 6-7.

Ramapo held off the Scarlet Raptors the remainder of the game to hold onto the one run victory. Wheeler (7-5) struck out six and scattered six hits in the complete game win for the Roadrunners. Bartolomeo led the team with two hits while Egan and Corra each collected a team high two RBI.

Game Two
Ramapo collected 14 hits in the second game while they scored 13 runs in the run-rule shortened game. In the third inning,
Marissa DiPaolo put the Roadrunners on the board with an RBI single which scored
Katie Rygiel, 1-0. Verrino connected on a three-run home run to put Ramapo up 4-0. Corra hit a solo home run in the third inning for a 5-0 lead before the Scarlet Raptors hit a bases loaded double in the bottom half of the inning. Alexis Schauer hit the bases-clearing double to score three runs for Rutgers, 3-5.

In the fourth inning,
Jaclyn Monaco laced an RBI single to left field allowing
Anna Messina to score, 6-3 before the Roadrunners added eight runs in the top of the fifth. With the bases loaded, Verrino picked up two RBI with a single to left field before Corra plated two more with a single of her own. Wheeler then made it 13-3 in favor of the Roadrunners with a three-run home run.

DiPaolo (9-1) earned the complete game win for Ramapo with eight strikeouts while she scattered three hits and let up just three runs (none earned). Verrino led the team with five RBI while she was 2-3 with two runs scored. Corra finished 3-4 with three RBI and two runs scored while Rygiel also finished 3-4 with two runs scored.

The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, April 19th when they travel to Rutgers-Newark University for a pair of NJAC games at 3pm.Â
