Newark, NJ: The Ramapo College softball team extended their win streak to six games with a sweep over Rutgers-Newark University this afternoon, 14-4 in game one and 12-2 in game two. The Roadrunners improve to 19-6 overall, 10-2 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders move to 10-14 overall and 4-8 in the conference.
Game One
Ramapo scored two runs in the top of the first before Newark tied the game in the bottom half of the inning. The Roadrunners then scored five in the second, two in the third, four in the fourth and one in the fifth. In the first inning, Katie Rigiel laced an RBI single to right field which plated

Mahogany Wheeler later scored on a pass ball, 2-0. With the game tied at two, Ramapo came back to add five runs in the second inning. Egan drove home

Alexis Corra and Rygiel then hit back-to-back doubles which plated two runs each for a 7-2 score. In the third inning, Corra tripled to center field which allowed
Krista Verrino to score before Corra scored on a wild pitch, 9-2. In the fourth, Monaco drove home
Avery Bartolomeo with a single to center field before
Marissa DiPaolo was able to cross home plate during Monaco's stolen base at second. Corra then picked up two more RBI in the game with a single to score Verrino and Monaco, 13-2. In the fifth inning,
Melody Gleason led off with a pinch-hit triple to left field before
Thu Deo hit a pinch-hit RBI single to right field which allowed Gleason to score, 14-2. Newark added two runs in the bottom of the fifth before the Roadrunners ended the game turning a 5-4-3 double play.
Wheeler (8-5) scattered seven hits in the complete game victory for the Roadrunners. Corra led the team at the plate with five RBI while she went 3-5 with two runs scored. Monaco also finished with three hits while she tallied one RBI and two runs scored. Rygiel finished 2-4 with three RBI.
Game Two
Ramapo got on the board early in game one with four runs in the first inning. With the bases loaded Wheeler laced a triple to right field which scored Verrino, Egan and Corra for a 3-0 lead. Rygiel then lifted a sac fly to center field to plate Wheeler for the 4-0 score. Newark added one run in the bottom of the first before Wheeler belted a solo home run down the left field line, 5-1. In the fourth inning, Egan plated Monaco with an RBI single before Wheeler hit her second triple of the game which scored Egan and Corra. Rygiel then plated Wheeler with an RBI single for a 9-1 lead. In the fifth inning, Corra hit a triple of her own to plate pinch runner
Julia Ciccone before Wheeler plated Corra with an RBI single, 11-1. Ramapo got their final run as Wheeler scored on an infield error, 12-1. Rutgers added one run in the fifth as Riley Scuralli scored on a throw to second base as the Ramapo defense attempted to throw behind the runner.
Wheeler was perfect at the plate finishing 4-4 with seven RBI and four runs scored. Corra finished 2-3 with three runs scored and one RBI. Ramapo starting pitcher
Marissa DiPaolo earned her 10th win of the season with a complete game. DiPaolo struck out eight and let up just three hits in the game.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, April 23rd when they host New Jersey City University in a NJAC doubleheader starting at 1pm.
