SOFTBALL SWEEPS NJCU IN NJAC ACTION

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team moved to 21-6 overall and 12-2 in the NJAC with a sweep over New Jersey City University this afternoon. The Roadrunners posted two shutouts with a 3-0 win in game one and an 8-0 five inning win in game two.
 
Game One
Ramapo got on the board with one run in the second inning before they added two in the bottom of the sixth. Anna Messina led off the first inning with a bunt single before she moved to second on a sac bunt from Nicole Cerasi. Messina moved up one base when she tagged up on a fly ball out to right field before she scored on an infield error from NJCU. Messina walked in the sixth before Cerasi and Jaclyn Monaco each put down bunt singles to load the bases with one out. Following the second out of the inning where NJCU got Messina out at home on an infield ground ball, Carli Egan laced a two RBI double to left field as Cerasi and Monaco scored.
 
Ramapo starting pitcher Mahogany Wheeler (9-5) spun a three-hitter in the complete game win. She struck out four and walked three. Cerasi finished the game 2-2 at the plate with one run scored while Monaco also recorded two hits and Egan led the way with two RBI.
 
Game Two
The Roadrunners belted out ten hits in the second game as they scored two runs in the third and fourth inning before they added four in the fifth for the 8-0 win. In the third inning, Messina led off with a walk before she moved to second on a sac from Monaco. Krista Verrino laced a single to right field which allowed Messina to move to third base. Egan then plated Messina with an RBI groundout before Verrino scored on Alexis Corra's hard hit double down the left field line, 2-0. In the fourth inning, Katie Rygiel and Avery Bartolomeo hit back-to-back singles before Cerasi moved them up with a sac bunt. Following the second out of the inning, Monaco smacked a double to left field which allowed both runners to score, 4-0. In the fifth inning, Rygiel singled home Egan before Cerasi plated two runs with an RBI single of her own as Corra and Rygiel both scored for a 7-0 score. Cerasi stole third base before Messina drove her home with a hard hit single through the right side of the infield, 8-0.
 
Marissa DiPaolo (11-1) struck out eight, walked one and scattered just two hits in the complete game win. Rygiel was perfect at the plate as she finished 3-3 with two runs scored and one RBI while seven other Roadrunners collected one hit each.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, April 26th when they host Rowan University in a NJAC doubleheader at 3pm.
