Leesburg, FL: The Ramapo College softball team fell in a pair of games on their final day at THE Spring Games. University of Wisconsin- River Falls took the first game 6-3 before Farmingdale State College held on for a 3-2 win in game two. The Roadrunners now stand at 6-3 overall.
Game One
River Falls scored three runs in the third inning to take a 3-0 lead before Ramapo got on the board with one run in the fifth inning.
Anna Messina laced a single to center field which allowed
Avery Bartolomeo to score. Bartolomeo reached base on a two-out double down the left field line. River Falls got two back in the bottom half of the fifth before each team scored a single run in the sixth inning. For the Roadrunner's run in the sixth,
Mahogany Wheeler recorded a sac fly to right field to plate
Alexis Corra who reached on a triple earlier in the inning. Ramapo also added their final run in the top of the seventh inning as
Jaclyn Monaco put down an RBI bunt single to plate pinch runner
Melody Gleason for the team's third run of the game. River Falls was able to get out of a jam as they recorded the final out to preserve the 6-3 victory.
Monaco and
Anna Messina each collected two hits in the game to lead Ramapo at the plate. Wheeler took the loss in the circle as she moved to 3-2 overall. She struck out two, walked one and scattered three hits while surrendering three runs (two earned).
Sara Cappetti pitched the final three innings for the Roadrunners. She let up five hits and three runs (one earned).
Game Two
The two teams seemed to be in a pitcher's duel through four innings of play before Farmingdale State got on the board with three runs in the fifth inning aided by a two-run home run from Lindsey Shaw, 3-0. Ramapo got one back in the sixth inning when
Carli Egan and Corra ripped -back-to-back doubles. Corra's double hit the top of the left field fence allowing
Carli Egan to score, 1-3. In the seventh , Egan plated one run with a hard hit single up the middle as Messina came around to score before the Rams got a big defensive play. Julianna Prescia fielded a hard hit ball up the middle and fired to first base for the final out to end the game and hold off the Roadrunners comeback.
Egan finished game two, 3-4 at the plate with one run and one RBI while Corra collected two hits. Ramapo starting pitcher
Marissa DiPaolo (2-1) struck out seven, walked just two and scattered six hits in the complete game.
The Roadrunners return to action on Tuesday, March 22
nd when they host Mount Saint Mary College (NY) in a non-conference matchup starting at 3pm.
