SOFTBALL REMAINS UNDEFEATED WITH TWO WINS

Clermont, FL:  The Ramapo College softball team remained undefeated with a pair of wins over Nichols College (0-4) and SUNY Cortland (0-2). The Roadrunners improve to 3-0 overall.  
 
Game One
Ramapo starting pitcher Marissa DiPaolo spun a one-hitter as the Roadrunners defeated Nichols College, 14-2 in a five inning game. DiPaolo earned her first collegiate win of her career as she struck out four, walked three and let up just one hit.
 
The Roadrunners recorded 16 hits in the game including four doubles. Ramapo opened the game scoring seven runs in the top of the first inning. Mahogany Wheeler knocked in two RBI with a single to get Ramapo on the board before Avery Bartolomeo drew a bases loaded walk for a 3-0 score. Jaclyn Monaco then picked up an RBI as Katie Rygiel touched home plate before Krista Verrino laced a double into the right-center field gap with the bases loaded, plating all three runs, 7-0.
 
In the second inning, Rygiel doubled before coming home on an infield single from Anna Messina. Ramapo pushed the score to 10-0 in the third inning as they plated two more runs. Alexis Corra singled home Verrino before she later scored on a fielder's choice. Nichols got on the board in the bottom half of the third inning before Rampao added two more runs in the fourth, 12-2. Wheeler and Rygiel each plated runs with RBI singles. In the fifth, Verrino laced an RBI double to right field scoring Monaco before Egan plated Verrino with an RBI double of her own, 14-2.
 
Verrino finished 3-3 with four runs scored, four RBI and two walks while Egan, Wheeler and Rygiel all collected three hits in the game. Egan finished with one run scored and one RBI while Wheeler added three RBI and one run scored. Rygiel scored two runs and earned one RBI. Monaco finished 2-4 with three runs scored and one RBI.
 
Game Two
Ramapo belted out 15 hits and scored 13 runs against SUNY Cortland while the offensive attack was highlighted by a grand slam from Corra in the fifth inning. Wheeler (2-0) earned the win in the circle in relief. She worked the final 2.2 innings with two strikeouts and no walks while she scattered three hits. Sara Cappetti started the game for the Roadrunners. She scattered four hits in the first 2.1 innings of work.
 
The Roadrunners scored four runs in the second inning to take a 4-0 lead. Nicole Cerasi put down a bunt single and later scored on a wild pitch before Egan drove home Monaco and Verrino with a big two RBI double. Corra drove home Egan with a single down the right field line making it 4-0 for the Roadrunners. Cortland would cut the lead in half in the third inning scoring two runs before they added one in the fourth, 3-4. Ramapo then added three runs in the fourth inning taking a 7-3 lead. With Verrino on third and Corra on second and one out, Melody Gleason would pinch run for Corra before Rygiel plated both runners with a hard hit single up the middle. Bartolomeo then singled through the left side of the infield which allowed Rygiel to score making it 7-3 Ramapo. Cortland once again battled back in the fifth inning with a two-run home run before Ramapo broke the game open in the fifth inning. The Roadrunners added six runs to extend their lead, 13-5. With one out and the bases loaded Corra launched a home run over the left field fence for the first Roadrunner home run of the season. Following a single from Wheeler, a double from Rygiel and a 11 pitch at bat that resulted in a walk from Bartolomeo; Cerasi worked a walk of her own allowing Wheeler to score. Messina then drove home the 13th run for Ramapo with a hard hit single to right field, plating Rygiel for the run-rule victory.
 
Corra led the way in game two as she finished 3-4 with five RBI and one run scored. Rygiel went 3-4 with two runs scored and two RBI while Wheeler and Messina each collected two hits each.
 
The Roadrunners return to action at THE Spring Game on Tuesday, March 15th against Anderson University (IN) and Clarkson University. Ramapo takes on the Ravens at 10:30 AM and the Golden Knights at 1:30pm.
