SOFTBALL EARNS WINS OVER ANDERSON & CLARKSON TO REMAIN UNDEFEATED

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College softball team picked up two wins today at THE Spring Games with wins over Anderson University (IN), 5-1, and Clarkson University, 10-2 in five innings. The Roadrunners improve to 5-0 overall.
 
Game One
Carli Egan laced a triple down the right field line in the first inning before Alexis Corra laced a single into center field allowing Egan to score, 1-0. With the bases loaded, Anderson tied the game as Kyleigh Lowr was hit by a pitch forcing Jayden Brown to score, 1-1.
 
In the top of the fourth, Jaclyn Monaco singled to the shortstop, stole second and later scored on Krista Verrino's RBI double to take a 2-1 lead. Corra then ripped a double to center field as Verrino crossed home plate as Ramapo went up, 3-1. In the top of the sixth, Monaco singled to center field, stole second then stole third. The Anderson defense tried to make a play on Monaco's steal at third as the ball sailed into the outfield allowing her to score, 4-1. The Roadrunners would make it 5-1 in the top of the seventh as Katie Rygiel scored an unearned run.
 
Corra led the Roadrunners at the plate with a 3-4 afternoon with two RBI and one double and one triple. Monaco and Verrino each collected two hits in the game on four plate appearances. Marissa DiPaolo (2-0) scattered four hits in the complete game win with seven strikeouts and two walks while she surrendered just one run.
 
Game Two
Clarkson opened the game with two runs in the first inning to take a 2-0 lead in the top half of the inning. Ramapo then tied the game and took the lead in the bottom of the third inning as they scored seven runs on six hits for a 7-2 lead. Monaco singled to right field, stole second and came around to score on Carli Egan's hard hit single through the infield. Back-to-back singles from Corra and Mo Wheeler loaded the bases with two outs before Rygiel worked walk to force home Egan with the game-tying run, 2-2.Corra and Wheeler then scored on an infield error before Anna Messina drove home Rygiel with an infield single for the 5-2 score. Monaco then laced a single to left field allowing DiPaolo to score before Bartolomeo came home on a wild pitch, 7-2.
 
In the fourth, Egan led off the inning with a hit by pitch before she was lifted for pinch runner Julia Ciccone. Ciccone moved up one base on a single from Wheeler before she scored on a single down the right field line from Rygiel, 8-2. In the fifth, Messina and Monaco hit back-to-back singles before they each moved up on a wild pitch. Verrino walked to load the bases for Egan who then drilled a two RBI single up the middle to plate the final runs of the game, 10-2.
 
Wheeler (3-0) earned the win in the circle for the Roadrunners with four strikeouts, two walks and scattering six hits over five innings of work.
 
Ramapo returns to action tomorrow morning when they take on St. Lawrence University at 9am and University of Wisconsin-Platteville at 1:30pm.
