Mahwah, NJ: The Lions of the College of New Jersey defeated Ramapo College tonight, 61-49, in NJAC action. The Lions improve to 10-11 overall and 7-9 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners move to 9-10 overall and 8-8 in the conference.
TCNJ took a 33-19 lead into halftime after two quarters of action before Ramapo cut the lead to a one possession game at the end of the third quarter. Ramapo outscored TCNJ 18-13 in the third and went on a 15-2 run over 5:17 in the quarter. A jumper from
Alie Wickersheim with 1:35 on the clock brought the Roadrunners within three, 37-40. Julia Setaro sank a three-pointer for TCNJ at the end of the third that started a 10-4 run that continued into the fourth quarter giving the Lions a 53-41 lead with 6:28 left to play. A jumper from
Jada Thompson cut the lead to ten before back-to-back three-pointers from Morgan Heller and Sydney Blum gave them a 15-point lead, 61-44 with 3:04 left to play. Ramapo did score the final five points of the game but TCNJ came away with the 61-49 victory.
The Lions sank 12 three-pointers in the game as Nina Branchizio finished 5-5 from beyond the three-point line, finishing with 15 points, three assists and seven rebounds. Setaro added 13 points, three rebounds and one steal while Blum added nine points, four rebounds and three blocks. TCNJ shot 40% (22-55) from the field, 41% (12-29) from the three-point line and 38% (5-13) from the free throw line.
For the Roadrunners,
Bridget Cahill led the way with 11 points while Wickersheim posted a team high eight rebounds while she added nine points.
Olivia Johnstone tallied ten points, two rebounds, two steals and one assist while
Shannon Burns added seven points and three rebounds. The team shot 34% (18-52) from the field, 15% (2-13) from the three-point line and 78% (11-14) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, Feb. 12th when they travel to Rowan University for a NJAC game at 3pm.
