CAHILL THREE-POINTER LIFTS RAMAPO OVER NJCU IN DOUBLE OT

Mahwah, NJ:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team defeated New Jersey City University tonight, 72-64, in double overtime. The Roadrunners move to 9-9 overall and 8-7 in the NJAC while the Gothic Knights now stand at 7-8 overall and 6-9 in the conference.
 
The Roadrunners got on the board in the first quarter with a three-pointer from Olivia Johnstone to take a 3-1 lead before Damaris Rodriguez sank a three for NJCU. Bridget Cahill then hit a three-pointer for Ramapo for a 6-4 lead. The two teams traded baskets before Lindsey Ross took a pass from Jada Thompson and sank a jumper extending the lead, 10-6 with 1:49 left in the quarter. NJCU tied the game on a pair of free throws and a jumper before a free throw gave them an 11-10 lead with seconds remaining. Johnstone would get a jumper to go in with three seconds left for the final points of the quarter as Ramapo led 12-11. An 8-1 run to start the second quarter put Ramapo up 21-12, the run was capped off with a three-pointer from Johnstone. NJCU then went on a mini 6-0 run of their own before Ramapo extended the lead back to six, 24-18 with 3:47 on the clock with a jumper from Thompson. A jumper from Rodriguez and an and-one play from Laney Fox tied the game 25-25 with 1:20 on the clock before a jumper from Jimirah Johnson gave NJCU a two point lead 27-25 with 43 seconds remaining. Ross would tie the game with a jumper as the two teams went into the locker room tied, 27-27.
 
In the third quarter, NJCU took a 12 point lead as Fox sank a three-pointer, 42-30, with 6:27 on the clock. A 7-0 run from the Roadrunners cut the lead to 37-42. NJCU would take a 46-38 lead into the fourth quarter following back-to-back jumpers and a free throw from Alison Ahern. Olivia Wooten and Ross traded three-pointers as that started a 7-0 run for the Roadrunners which was capped off with another three-pointer from Johnstone, 45-49. An 8-2 run started by Alie Wickersheim with a free throw and it was capped off with Thompson sinking a free throw to tie the game, 53-53.
 
Thompson went on a mini 5-0 run of her own to start the first OT period when she sank a three-pointer and a jumper to take a 58-53 lead. Liyah Allen would tie the game for NJCU with a pair of jumpers and a free throw, 58-58, sending the game into the second OT period. The two teams traded baskets before a pair of free throws from NJCU tied the game for the ninth time, 64-64 with 1:19 on the clock. Cahill then sank a huge three-pointer for three Roadrunners and was fouled on the play. She scored the free throw for the four-point play to take the lead for good, 68-64, with just 52 seconds remaining. Ramapo scored the final three points of the game on the free throw line as they defeated NJCU, 72-64.
 
Four Roadrunners scored in double figures in the win. Wickersheim posted a career high 17 rebounds while she added 15 points for her 7th double double of the season. Thompson added 14 points and 15 rebounds for her 7th double double of the season. Johnstone finished 3-5 from the three-point line as she tallied 15 points while adding seven rebounds. Cahill finished 7-7 from the free throw line and collected 13 points, four assists and four steals. Ross added seven points and two steals while Ahern posted five points, five rebounds and one steal.
 
Ramapo shot 29% (22-74) from the field, 28% (7-25) from the three-point line and 67% (21-31) from the free throw line.
 
Rodriguez led NJCU with 26 points and 12 rebounds while she added four assists and three steals. Allen posted 13 points and nine rebounds while Johnson added 13 rebounds and five points. The team shot 25% (21-81) from the field, 27% (6-22) from the three-point line and 64% (16-25) from the free throw line.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, February 9th when they travel to the College of New Jersey for a NJAC game at 6pm.
