ROWAN TOPS RAMAPO IN NJAC WOMEN'S BASKETBALL ACTION

Profs snap the Roadrunners eight game win streak

Glassboro, NJ: The Rowan University women's basketball team defeated Ramapo College 81-66 to snap an eight-game win streak for the Roadrunners. The Profs move to 6-4 overall and 3-2 in the NJAC while the Roadrunners suffer their first loss of the season and now stand at 8-1 overall and 4-1 in the NJAC.
 
Ramapo opened the game on a 7-0 run. Alison Ahern put the Roadrunners on the board, Bridget Cahill made a three-pointer as the run was capped off by an Ahern jumper. Rowan went on a 9-0 run of their own to take a two point lead before Jada Thompson made a basket and a pair of free throws to give Ramapo an 11-9 lead with 5:26 on the clock. A jumper from Dakota Adams started a 9-2 run for Rowan that was capped off by a pair of free throws from Nicole Mallard, 18-13 with 1:29 on the clock. Rowan would run the score to 24-16 in the final 1:25 of the first quarter with a 6-3 run as they converted two made three-pointers. A 12-1 run to start the second quarter gave the Profs a 36-17 lead with 6:38 on the lock as Grace Marshall tallied a three-pointer. Thompson started a 7-2 run for the Roadrunners as they cut the lead to 24-38 with 4:11 on the clock when Jackie Ventricelli capped off the run with a made free throw. The two teams traded three-pointers as Salma Eddahiri and Kate Herlihy each knocked one down before Ventricelli converted on a pair of free throws for Ramapo with 3:10 on the clock. Rowan led 46-29 with another three-pointer from Herlihy which started a 7-2 run to cap off the second quarter as the Profs held a 50-30 lead heading into halftime.
 
Rowan held Ramapo to just seven points in the third quarter while the Profs added 18 to lead 68-37 to start the fourth quarter. Ramapo came back in the fourth as they scored 29 points in the final ten minutes of action. Ventricelli started the final quarter with a made three-pointer for the Roadrunners, which began a 14-2 run. Ventricelli tallied eight points during the run including two three-pointers to cut the Rowan lead, 51-70, with less than seven minutes to play. The two teams traded baskets over the next 2:05 of the game; each scoring six points as Rowan held onto a 76-57 lead. Ramapo worked the final four minutes of action with a 9-5 run as Thompson scored a basket off a steal while Karly Whittenbauer scored the final basket of the game for the Roadrunners with ten second remaining. Rowan's final basket came with 50 seconds left as Dakota Adams scored two.
 
Ventricelli led the Roadrunners with 19 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals while Thompson added 14 points and a team high six assists. Olivia Johnstone and Salma Eddahiri each added ten points while Alison Ahern posted seven points and five rebounds. The Roadrunner defense forced 28 Rowan turnovers in the game which led to 21 points for Ramapo. Ramapo shot 36% (21-58) from the field, 28% (6-21) from the three-point line and 60% (18-30) from the free throw line in the game.

Rowan was led by Eliana Santana who recorded 14 points while Mallard and Adams each posted 13 points in the game. Danielle McCurdy tacked on ten points while Ny'emah Middleton and Herlihy contributed with eight points each. The Profs sank five made three-pointers in the game. The team forced 26 Ramapo turnovers which led to 20 points for the Profs. Rowan shot 45% (28-62) from the field, 21% (5-23) from the three-point line and 87% (20-23) from the free throw line.
 
Ramapo returns to action on Tuesday, December 13th when they host Medgar Evers College in a non-conference game at the Bradley Center at 5:30pm.
