VENTRICELLI, AHERN LEAD RAMAPO WOMEN'S BASKETBALL OVER KEAN

Mahwah, NJ:  Behind career highs from Jackie Ventricelli and Alison Ahern, the Ramapo College women's basketball team remained undefeated with a 72-68 NJAC conference victory over Kean University tonight at the Bradley Center. The Roadrunners move to 6-0 overall and 2-0 in the NJAC while the Cougars drop to 3-3 overall and 1-1 in the conference.
 
Ramapo snapped a 17-game losing streak to the Cougars as they last defeated Kean during the 2012-2013 season. Ventricelli led the Roadrunners on the court with 21 points and 12 rebounds while she added three assists and a team high five steals. Bridget Cahill posted 15 points while she added a team high four assists. Jada Thompson posted 12 points while Ahern added a career high ten points while she added ten rebounds for a double double. The Roadrunners shot 40% (25-62) from the floor in the game, 26% (5-19) from the three-point line and 65% (17-26) from the free throw line. The Roadrunner defense forced 18 Kean turnovers which led to 18 points for Ramapo. The Roadrunners biggest lead came in the third quarter when they led, 40-25, with 9:51 on the clock as Ventricelli stole the ball and scored a fastbreak layup. The Cougars cut the lead to just five in the third quarter with just over four minutes left on the clock before Ventricelli hit a big three-pointer for the Roadrunners to stretch the lead back to eight, 47-39 with 3:11 on the clock. In the final 1:32 of the third quarter, the Roadrunners went on a mini 7-3 run to take a ten point lead, 56-46. In the fourth quarter, Reilly Sheeley scored the first basket for Ramapo for a 58-46 lead before Kean cut it to six with under eight minutes left to play. A pair of free throws from Shannon McCoy with 3:40 on the clock would cut the lead to three, 63-60, before Jada Thompson converted an and-one play, 66-60. In the final minute of action, the Roadrunners scored five points at the free throw line as they held onto the four point NJAC win, 72-68.
 
Kean was led by McCoy with a season high 27 points after finishing with five made three-pointers and 8-10 from the free throw line. Shahd Badeer added a double double of 11 points and 13 rebounds while Brittany Graff and Stephanie LaGreca each contributed with eight points each. The Cougars shot 32% (22-67) from the floor, 19% (6-31) from the three-point line and 66% (18-27) from the free throw line.
 
Ramapo will return to action on Saturday, December 3rd when they host Stockton University in a NJAC conference game at 3pm.
