WOMEN'S BASKETBALL REMAINS UNDEFEATED WITH OVERTIME WIN AGAINST STOCKTON, 68-65

Roadrunners defeat Stockton move to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the NJAC

Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team moved to 7-0 overall and 3-0 in the NJAC as they defeated Stockton University today in overtime, 68-65. The Ospreys move to 6-2 overall and 1-2 in the conference.
 
Stockton took a 17-14 lead into the locker room at halftime before the Roadrunners outscored the Ospreys in the third quarter 20-12 to take a 34-30 lead. In the third, Jada Thompson made a jumper to start the quarter before Stockton came right back with a basket of their own to lead by four, 20-16. Jackie Ventricelli converted one of two from the free throw line and Olivia Johnstone sank a three-pointer to tie the game at 20 before Thompson converted on an and-one play to take a two point lead, 22-20 with 7:31 on the clock. The free throw from Ventricelli started a 12-2 run which was capped off with a free throw from Reilly Sheeley, 28-22 with 3:28 left in the third. Stockton shrunk the Ramapo lead to just two with less than 2:30 left in the quarter before a pair of free throws from Salma Eddahiri started a mini 6-4 run to end the quarter before Carly Martin scored a key jumper to end the third for a 34-30 lead. Johnstone started the fourth with a three-pointer to put Ramapo up seven, 37-30, before Stockton would cut the lead to just one on a three-pointer from Madison Larosa with 5:24 left on the clock, 39-40. Bridget Cahill would counter with a three-pointer of her own while Imene Fathi also hit a three-pointer for Stockton with 4:31 left to play to cut the lead to just one. A pair of free throws from Stockton gave them a one point lead before Johnstone sank another three-pointer, 46-44. The game was tied with a jumper by Stockton with 2:24 before they took the lead on a pair of free throws from Emma Morrone, 48-47, with 1:37 on the clock. Cahill took a pass from Thompson with 45 seconds left for a one point lead before Madison Dulude converted the second free throw to once again tie the game at 49. Ramapo did have a shot as time expired but could not convert sending the game into overtime. Stockton saw themselves up 53-1 with just under four minutes left in the overtime period before Johnston nailed a key three-pointer to take 54-53 lead. The two teams traded baskets before Sheeley converted on an and-one play with 2:43 on the clock for a 59-54 lead. With Ramapo up one 59-58 with 1:43 on the clock, Ventricelli stepped up to the free throw line and converted on both free throws. She would go on to score at the free throw line on three more trips down the court as Ramapo led 67-62 with less than three seconds left in the game. LaRosa sank a three-pointer for Stockton before Thompson scored the final point of the game for either team at the free throw line for the 68-65 win.
 
Johnstone tied a career high four made three-pointers in the game enroute to 14 points for the Roadrunners. Ventricelli posted 14 points including 12-14 from the free throw line while she grabbed six rebounds, three assists and three steals. Thompson contributed with ten points and a team high nine rebounds while she added three assists and two steals. Alison Ahern, Eddahiri and Martin each scored seven points in the game. Ramapo shot 31% (17-54) from the field, 31% (6-19) from the three-point line and 73% (28-38) from the free throw line.
 
The Ospreys were led by Adriyana Jennings who posted 19 points and 16 rebounds while LaRosa added 17 points. Morrone contributed with 12 points and six rebounds. The Ospreys shot 34% (22-64) from the floor in the game, 22% (4-18) from the three-point line and 56% (17-30) from the free throw line.
 
Ramapo returns to action on Wednesday, December 7th when they travel to New Jersey City University for a NJAC conference game at 6pm.
