Mahwah, NJ: The Ramapo College women's basketball team extended their win streak to five games with a 79-44 win over Rutgers-Newark University in the first NJAC game of the season. The Roadrunners move to 5-0 overall, 1-0 in the NJAC while the Scarlet Raiders now stand at 2-2 overall and 0-1 in the conference.
Ramapo jumped out to a 14-4 lead following a strong first quarter before they added 22 points in the second quarter for a 36-18 lead at halftime. The Roadrunners outscored the Scarlet Raiders 43-26 over the final two quarters for the 79-44 NJAC victory.
Karly Wittenbauer scored on a jumper for the Roadrunners as they held a 42 point lead, 79-37, their biggest of the game with 1:57 left in the second half.
Ramapo had three starters score in double figures as they were led by
Bridget Cahill with a season high 21 points. Cahill added two rebounds, two assists and one steal.
Jada Thompson posted a double-double of 14 points and a team high 12 rebounds while adding three assists and two steals.
Jackie Ventricelli posted 13 points, eight rebounds and two assists while
Alison Ahern contributed with eight points and three rebounds. The team shot 47% (36-76) from the field, 11% (2-18) from the three-point line and 33% (5-15) from the free throw line in the game. The Ramapo defense forced 12 Scarlet Raider turnovers which led to 24 points for the Roadrunners.
For the Scarlet Raiders, Ebony Odom Barnes and Syncere Lambert each scored 12 points to lead the team. Odom Barnes added four rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot while Lambert posted five rebounds, two assists and one steal. Kaiel Maynor posted a team high seven rebounds while adding six points. The team shot 32% (18-56) from the field, 30% (3-10) from the three-point line and 35% (5-14) from the free throw line.
The Roadrunners return to action on Wednesday, November 30th at 5:30pm when they host Kean University in a NJAC conference game at the Bradley Center.
