WOMEN'S BASKETBALL WINS THIRD STRAIGHT, 61-47

Jamaica, NY:  The Ramapo College women's basketball team improved to 3-0 overall with a 61-47 win over York College (NY) tonight in non-conference action. The Cardinals drop to 1-2 on the year.
 
York pushed the first quarter taking a one point lead into the second quarter, 14-13, before Ramapo outscored the Cardinals, 14-6, to take a 27-20 lead into the locker room at halftime. The Roadrunners did not give up the lead the remainder of the game to earn the road victory.  
 
Shannon Burns matched a career high as she led the Roadrunners with 16 points while she added a team high 12 rebounds for her first double-double of the season. Burns also posted three assists, two blocks and two steals. Jada Thompson added 13 points, eight rebounds and a team high six steals while Bridget Cahill recorded ten points, four rebounds and two assists. Jackie Ventricelli contributed with six points and four steals while Salma Eddahiri added nine points and three steals. The Roadrunners shot 38% (23-60) from the field and 76% (13-17) from the free throw line. The defense forced 20 York turnovers in the game which led to 28 points for the Roadrunners.
 
For York, Ellma Hodzic led the way with 13 points and ten rebounds for a double-double whils he added two blocks, two steals and four assists. Mac-Dege Dessources added 12 points and six rebounds while Alicia Gumbs posted five rebounds and seven points. The Cardinals shot 36% (18-49) from the field and 58% (10-17) from the free throw line.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Saturday, November 19th when they host Centenary University for a non-conference game at  1pm.
