MEN'S VOLLEYBALL DROPS TWO TOUGH MATCHES IN SEASON OPENER

Mahwah, NJ:   The Ramapo College men's volleyball team opened the 2022 season today against two nationally ranked opponents in #9 Rutgers-Newark University and #2 Springfield College at the Bradley Center.
 
Against the Scarlet Raptors (1-0, 1-0 NJAC), the Roadrunners battled the #9 team in the AVCA Top 15 Poll in three sets. The Scarlet Raiders came away with a 25-19, 25-22 and 30-28 NJAC conference win.  They were led by Arvind Kumar who hit .409 in the match with 12 kills while he added two aces, eight digs and two assisted blocks. Andrew Zaleck posted 11 kills and two digs in the match while Derek Au dished out a team high 30 assists while he added six digs and three assisted blocks. Matt Nikishin posted 13 digs to lead the team on defense while he added two assists. Eric Hollenback led the team with four assisted blocks while he added three kills and one dig. The team tallied 36 total kills in the match on 87 attempts and 21 errors to hit .172.
 
Ramapo was led by Sean Nieves who tallied eight kills while he added one ace and four digs. Conor Charlow posted five kills and a team high three solo blocks while he added two assists blocks in the match. Andrew Finnegan, Jack DiGirolamo and Jason van der Wilt all recorded four kills in the match while Finnegan added three total blocks, including one solo and four digs. Tyler Plitt led the way on defense with seven digs while JoJo Meyer posted a team high 14 assists. Josh Titus added nine assists and three digs. The team collected 25 kills in the match on 86 attempts with 17 errors.
 
Against the Pride in their second match of the day, Ramapo was led by Charlow who posted ten kills on 16 attempts as he hit .500 in the match while he also recorded a solo block. Van der Wilt added six kills, two assists and three digs while Nieves added seven kills, four digs and one assisted block. Meyer dished out a team high 22 assists while Plitt and Meyer each collected six digs to lead the team on defense. The team posted 31 kills in the match on 84 attempts with 16 errors.
 
For Springfield, Liam York led the way with 13 kills on 20 attempts with just two errors as he hit .550 in the match. He added seven digs and one assist. Noah Weislo collected seven kills and six digs while Nate Reynolds hit .600 in the match with seven kills of his own on 10 attempts and just one error. He also posted one dig and one solo block. Ethan Weislo and Matt Lilley each dished out 20 assists in the match while Johjan Mussa Robles led the way on defense with 12 digs. The team hit .395 in the match with 43 kills on 81 attempts and 11 errors.
 
The Roadrunners return to action on Friday, Jan. 28th when they host SUNY Potsdam in a non-conference game at 7pm.
